I made a point to visit both the Main Street Bakery and the Fountain View in December. To be honest, I'm more sorry to see Fountain View go. My only hope with MK is that the theming of main street be left intact.

Believe it or not, it's an old Mr Coffee that makes 4 shots of espresso max at a run, no pump-- all on steam pressure-- works great once you figure out the timing for getting the milk steamed before it runs out-- got it for 5 bucks at good will. My home machine is a DeLonghi.

Some folks just have a mysterious, unexplainable hate for Starbucks.

I talk to people who make a face when Starbucks is mentioned, they hate the place and everything it stands for, and in many cases they have never crossed the threshold of a Starbucks. These are the same people who continually talk about a cup of coffee there being "5 bucks, 6 bucks" and one one recent post on another thread somebody said Starbucks coffee is "8 bucks." I have never paid anywhere near those amounts for a S'bucks coffee.

Some of these people are the same ones who also have some inherent distaste for cell phones and the people that talk on them. "Look at that guy over there trying to impress everyone by talking on his cell phone", lolol.

And........Get that ball off my lawn.

The OP article mentioned 2000 people signed a anti Starbucks petition. I'm quite sure the new bakery will serve more people than that on a daily basis.

Then you have the comparison to the ice cream parlor and Casey's Corner. Both of which have corporate sponsors. Edy's is not hated here, Why? It's owned my the largest food company in the world. It's also a "modern" company with respect to the Main Street "theme".

Worse things have happened. Like putting Johnny Depp inside a classic Disney ride. Some say that bold change made the ride better. People want Star Wars and Marvel in the Disney Parks. But remodeling a bakery on Main Street U.S.A., and "plussing it" (Walt's words) with a sponsorship and product from one of America's premiere companies is supposed to be bad? I don't get it.

Perhaps those up in arms now understand how many of us felt over the Depp thing. I personally got over, and even excepted it, even though I've never seen a single POTC movie. And as for the bakery thing. I have no problem paying all that money for a Disney escape, and still being able to enjoy my favorite Starbucks beverage. For most of us, it's the best of both worlds.

You're so right

A piece of Main Street themeing bites the dust. Gimme a bakery over a coffee house any day. Starbucks is ok in a pinch but for those of us who like it straight up strong and black it's a mediocre cup.

Yeah its fine line. Look at the video of the new location. Disney management is sitting there saying..."ching,ching".

I don't think the theme was totally done away with, although I didn't really go in there before. So if the outside looks the same, its all the same to me. I don't drink coffee so who cares what coffee it is. I understand the sponsorship deal. Anyone remember how Six Flags was doing it? They had the sponsor plastered all over the ride vehicles. Stupid! If Disney started having the train plastered with moving advertising than I would be in an uproar. But yeah, the monorail has stuff on it sometimes from movie advertisements, I go either way on those.

The only thing I was a having an uproar is how I saw it stated about "a starbucks opening up on Main Street" and not that the Main Street Bakery will be serving Starbucks coffee.

For example, on your Johnny Depp on POTC. I didn't have a problem with it. That's just me. I can't answer why it doesn't. I just seems part of the ride. Of course, I didn't realize they had done that until right before we went one time so I guess I didn't have to ponder it or hear the announcement for it and get in an uproar. I just look at it with the ride influencing the movie and vice versa. The attraction is still great to me and still has the classic feel!

Now somethings I do wish were done differently but do live with it, trying to see WHY they may have done something and certain way.

One thing I don't get is how did the Laugh Floor end up in Tomorrowland? What is futuristic or spacey about that? I enjoy the attraction but is place wrong.

My 2 cents for now............

Well, it would be futuristic if we could power our cities with laughter. . .

I always wondered why COFFEE wasn't a priority before at Disney. It is tough to find a good cup of Joe save for Kona Café with the French Press. I am for this change

These discussions about Starbucks are interesting because people either don't know or forget the history of MKs Main Street Bakery. For those of us who were there, we remember that it used to sponsored by Sara Lee in the 1980's. And it was not a good shop. Sponsoring of the place is not new at all.

Then there is the history on fan boards of people hating the coffee. That's been going on since Nescafé appeared. In both cases, the new sponsor and new coffee are a definite step up.

And, besides, all the discussion is meaningless now. The crowds in the shop are proving that it is popular and will be staying. The majority is speaking with feet and wallets. All the discussion in the world isn't going to get rid of it now. May as well accept it, get over it, and stop making ourselves unhappy about change.

SBUX, not for Disney

don't love the idea of more corporate representation in the MK or DW in general. When I walk down Main STreet I want to be transported to a different time and place, not reminded of every other street in the nation. I vote NO. Where will this type of takeover end?

Considering the topic of the post...

Walt would say "Please let me sleep. I've been enjoying myself" or... "I think we need a location in Texas"

It's a bit ironic that you'd not want to be reminded of every other street when Main Street U.S.A. was supposed to look like any old Main Street in the nation. The irony aside, from what I've gathered, it still looks the part of Main Street U.S.A. on the outside, so walking down the street it should still transport visitors to a different time and place.
