Boston area DISers: MBTA info needed

From South Station, what are the public transportation options over to the Seaport area? From south of Boston, is going to South Station first, then taking other transportation (bus I guess??) over to the Seaport area the best route? Thanks!

If you go to MBTA.com you can map your route. It will list your options and travel time, etc Very helpful

Where in the Seaport are you going? If you are in good shape you could probably walk. I work two blocks from South Station and my lunch time walk takes me down by the water.

Thanks. I checked there, but I couldn't tell exactly what some of the stops were.

Thanks. The business is on Farnsworth Street. On the map it looks like you have to cross over water on Summer Street, is that right? Are there sidewalks on the bridge??

I would walk as well, from south station. It'll save you the 2 bucks and it's pretty easy. Yes, the whole thing is walkable. Just cross the bridge at Summer or Congress. It shouldn't take more than 10-15 minutes, depending on how far down Farnsworth.

Easiest way to navigate - http://www.mbta.com/rider_tools/trip_planner/ and just put in the starting address and the ending address. If you're starting address isn't near a T stop (you can have it give you walking directions up to a mile), just put your nearest stop. Google maps also does public transit directions.

Thanks. I've done that, and here are the results. Just not sure what it means. Blame this on having always lived in a suburb and never having to use mass transportation.

11 Bayview Via Broadway view route
9:43 PM Depart from Summer St & South Station- Red Line entrance
9:45 PM Arrive at A St & Necco St

Can you decipher this for me?? LOL

Edited to add more of the directions, which I DO understand. LOL

Walk For 5 Mins. To Farnsworth Boston
Walk approx. 2 blocks NE on A St.
Turn left on Congress St.
Walk a short distance NW on Congress St.
Turn right on Farnsworth St.
Walk a short distance NE on Farnsworth St.

It is the #11 bus that departs from Summer St and take it to the A St at Necco St stop.

But I agree with others it would be easier to walk

Thanks! I just ZOOMED all the way in the map and now I can how walkable it is; it put the distances into perspective. It looks like about a 10-15 minute walk, does that sound right??

That 2 minute bus ride would probably use up more time (between waiting for the bus, getting on, getting off, etc) than the walk would.

That sounds about right. Even though the bus says you would get to the stop in 2 minutes chances are you would beat the bus if you walked!

Walk: Go up to street level. Turn right onto Summer Street, cross street. At water, turn left onto Dorchester Ave. Turn right onto Congress Street. Farnsworth Street is about two blocks down on your left.

MBTA: take Silver Line 1 (SL1) toward Logan Airport. Exit at Court House Station. Head back toward river - Farnsworth is two short blocks on your left.

What the maps don't show you is that there is a walkway from Summer St to Congress St by the water after you cross the bridge over the channel.

I go to Summer St, take the walkway over to Congress St and then walk down to Farnsworth. Definitely a pretty walk if done during the day.
