Free D23 Membership now available

D23's "Free" Membership is now available.

To get "Free" Membership, you must go to the Disney Store website and "buy" the membership for $0.00.

I received my membership number, which is ridiculously long. Then, you have to REGISTER on the D23 website. Apparently, they make you wait 24 hours to register - maybe to run a credit check.

This is what "Free" membership includes:

Quote:
A One-Year D23 Free Membership Includes:

Members-Only Website Content: Access to exclusive content on D23.com including interviews with Disney stars and luminaries, behind-the-scenes looks at the latest movies and theme park attractions, vintage film clips, never-before-seen artwork and photography from the Walt Disney Archives and the complete, updated Disney A to Z.
D23 Expo: D23 Members receive a special discount on tickets to the Ultimate Disney Fan Event
Exclusive Merchandise: D23 offers its members access to exclusive, limited-edition merchandise and collectibles
Subscription to weekly D23 FanFare e-newsletter with breaking news, exclusive features and special offers
Special promotional offers and discounts throughout the year
Plus, stay connected to D23 every day at Disney.com/D23, featuring up-to-the-minute Disney news, feature stories, event info, merchandise and more

Red face

Is D23 going down hill? Is the membership so-so? I wonder if offering One year free membership smacks of desperation?

From what I see, it gives everyone the ability to buy "exclusive" D23 merchandise.

...there goes another DVC benefit

So much for the special DVC benefit of a free D23 membership.

So, you sign-up to get a "free" membership that gives you access to a special website (OOoOOoo -snark-) that has the same information you can get elsewhere and the chance to spend money on items that have the logo of a failing club on them?

No....thanks...........!

No. It is worth exactly what you paid for it (or maybe even less). And you do not get a physical membership card so you cannot show it to buy D23 merchandise.

Well this indeed makes the free membership completely pointless. I would, at least, like a card to keep "on my person at all times". You know, like Sheldon.

I've never seen enough to sell me on a D23 membership. Other than to say I was a member.

I got an email yesterday from DVC about this. I read the subject line and hit "delete."

Heh...

It's such an honor that the good folks at The Mouse are allowing me to give them yet more of my money...

Membership does indeed have it's privileges.

(I'm not being snarky, I swear...)
