Also, if you are at a resort and going to MK, you can take a bus and you will not be going through TTC, but, straight to the park via the roadway. Even if you had to go through TTC, it isn't like that all the time. Only when the occasional mishap occurs. Again, it could happen anytime but after 30 years (42 visits) I have never been held up even once. It is an unusual thing, not to be expected every time. I never take the monorail over to MK at opening, there are way to many people attempting to ride it all at once. I always take the ferry and if I leave at a slower time of the day, I might hop on the train for the return trip to the TTC.
I think you misunderstood me. I realize resort buses don't stop at the TTC. I was suggesting that after a resort bus drops off its passengers at the MK, they change their sign to out of service, don't pick up any guests at MK, go back to TTC/GF and pick up some people to take them to MK. Then return to their regular route. Do this once with each resort/park bus and you suddenly have approximately 10 buses. Or even as you suggested they could stop by the TTC on the way to the MK and pick up some people if the bus is rather empty. I recognize these aren't ideal solutions, and really there is no perfect answer, but to me that line at the GF waiting for those small capacity boats, and a ferry line that extends to the parking lot aren't very good solutions either. And as far as their contingency plans maybe they need to reevaluate them if their plans lead to those kind of waits.

Having standby buses shouldn't be that difficult and is a good idea. Having the drivers to staff them is the harder part. We have also had monorail issues on our last two trips. I think it is funny that people seem to think that it is exaggerated or doubt what others have seen or experienced firsthand simply because they have been there sooooooo many times and have been lucky enough to NEVER have an issue.

Yep. Especially when they are using a monorail past its life expectancy with a history of breakdowns.

We were there June 7th. We took the EPCOT monorail to the TTC to hop over to the MK monorail. As soon as we got off the EPCOT monorail, we saw the line for the MK monorail and it was ugly. The queue was full to the bottom of the ramp and beyond.

I really did not have much time to take pics or anything. At the bottom of our ramp, a CM was directing us to the left going away from the monorail line. He said there were no-wait buses waiting to take us to the MK. Down the path there were 2 motorcoaches waiting for us. We hopped on one of them and within a few minutes we were dropped off where the resort buses load/unload. After reading what had happened a day or two earlier, I am grateful that our situation was easier to deal with.

OP-Much credit to you and your family for how you handled the situation. I don't know if I would have had the patience had I gone through that.

As a side note: On June 9th was a MK EMH Evening. We stayed until about 12:15 (park closed at 1:00 AM). Now, I know to expect larger bus crowds, but holy cow I could not believe the line for the Coronado Springs bus (not our resort this time)!! They were the stop on the right closed to MK, but the line went all the way back almost completely cutting off traffic to the other bus depot! I had huge sympathy for those families. I could not hear everything the CM was saying, but I heard something about a detour for some of the buses.

Transportation will always be a hit or miss. We stayed at Riverside in January and the buses were great except for MK. We stayed at POFQ in 2009 and never had an issue with the buses. We really liked having the boat transportation to DTD as well. I think as long as you go in knowing that there are always going to potentially be delays it is easier to deal with.

There is a new app that I can only seem to find for ipod/iphone called DPart. It has the ability to search for the time for the next bus for any resort/park. I only have an ipod and had to use Disney internet (which is very hit or miss) so I was only able to use it a small amount of time on our last trip a few days ago. I will say that it certainly needs input from users regarding reporting bus times, but at least give you a good idea as to when the next bus is due.

We were there that night too and left the park around 1:05. The traffic coming down Main Street was like leaving a hard ticket party. Much busier than the last time we stayed through an EMH closing.

I was surprised at how many people were waiting at the Pop Century stop. But there were 2 buses loading. We just missed....... then had to wait a full 10 to 15 minutes for the next bus to arrive. I have NO idea what the problem was.
