Smile Disney Rewards Card

For those of you who may have the Disney Rewards Chase credit card, are the "rewards" worth it? Just curious how this works....???? We are going on a cruise in January and hoping this is the first of many Disney trips in our future so we are considering signing up for this card. Feedback wanted.

I use ours to pay for everything from car insurance to property taxes. We pay it off every month so no interest charges. Our last 7-night cruise was almost paid for completely with our rewards dollars. If it wasn't for that balance, we would have had to consider cancelling the cruise. I think my entire family is in favor of it.

Personally I think it is worth it as we are HUGE Disney fans. I have the new Disney Signature card that does charge an annual fee but I get 2% back. We put everything on our Disney card and pay it off at the end of the month. Last year we took a Disney cruise and I had been saving up my Disney rewards for the cruise. When we boarded I put the rewards money on our account so we could use it for drinks, gifts, spa packages, a cabana, etc... I had accumulated over $2000 in rewards so it was nice not to have to spend my own money.

It has never been worth it to us. We use our Costco AMEX card which gives us pretty much the same percent back as the Disney Card without the annual fee. Since most Disney purchases are classified as travel, you still get the 2% cash back for vacations and the Costco card has 3% for gas.

Even if you don't have Costco as an option, you might want to look at other reward cards that give 2% back for travel without the fee.

The only thing you really miss out on is the Disney stores, but you would have to spend $4900 at the stores to make that extra 1% worth it.

As with any credit card offering "rewards" - whether it is worth it for you all depends on what you'd like to do with your reward. Do you prefer airline tickets, free gas, credits towards specific stores/purchases, free savings for vacation, cash back? If you think you will use credits towards a future Disney vacation, or other Disney purchases (Disney Store, etc.) then it could be worth it for you along with the 0% financing offer. If you'd really rather have free airline tickets, you might want a different card - though I think the "premium" Disney Visa now offers redemption of points towards some airlines. Will you charge everything under the sun to this credit card and get tremendous savings? Or do you have other cards you also like to use which might limit the points earned on the Disney Visa?

Just thinking of your spending habits, what you are willing/able to put on a charge card, and how you'd like to use any rewards.

There are probably better reward programs out there. But personally, I love my Disney VISA. We pay off our balance every month and I use our rewards for Disneyland, Disney World and Disney Cruises. I don't mind buying souvenirs when its free money!

For us the 6 month 0% financing is a big plus, we can book our cruises & then charge the final payment & have 6 months to pay "those charges" off. We also use it to pay our DDs college tuition and room & board. But like others have noted to really make any "reward card" pay off you need to pay it off monthly (we usually pay our 0% charges off 5 months) to avoid intrest charges. So for us we seems worth it to have this card. . It seems like we always have an extra $300 or $400 for each cruise.

We have the Premier (Signature) version of the card and it definitely works out good for us. We are Disneyland passholders so we get a lot of use out of those rewards.

I use the card to pay for everything that I can (including bills) and then I pay it off every month.

Last year I think I used $1000 reward dollars for our MR cruise plus another $300 to cover a plane ticket.
This year I used about $450 for my DD's annual pass renewal and I have $1200 in rewards for our cruise at the end of the month.

But it is only worth it if you use the card a lot and pay it of each month. Otherwise the interest charges will eat up any rewards you might earn.

Also you need to decide which version works better. I like the premier version because I charge a lot that falls into the 2% category so the additional rewards are way more than the annual fee.

But if you won't be using it as much, it might be better to get the card that pays 1% back in rewards but has no annual fee.

If you want the card and plan on using it for all transactions, then the Premier is well worth it over the regular one. In my case, the additional percent in certain categories cover the annual fee in a couple of months.

As a card itself is just OK. You can do better with other cards.

Both credit cards give you the 6 months no interest on the vacation - this covers Disney packages and DCL, both deposits and full payments.

The signature has a perk via Fandango as well, since it's a Visa Signature - you can buy 2 movie tickets for the price of one, once a moth, on Fridays. And you can buy $25 of fandango bucks for $20.

Also both cards have Visa warranty manager, which gives you extended warranty protection on purchases and you can also buy extended warranties.

I wish they had some of the Citi options such as virtual account numbers or your picture on the front of the card. If VINs would be available, I'd probably get rid of my Citi (used just for internet purchases with the virtual numbers)

I didn't know about the Fandango thing. Where do you buy the tickets and how do you get the deal?

Online at fandango - note that it's only good on theaters that participate with them for online ticket ordering. AMC is there for example.

https://www.fandango.com/visasignature

They ask for the full 16 digit account number - this is to verify it's a valid visa signature. These promos had been around for a few years. They used to work on the regular Disney rewards visa a couple of years ago but then all of a sudden they stopped working. (The regular card had some visa signature benefits but not all of them). Now that the premier card is officially a visa signature, it works again.

The BOGO only works on Fridays, and you can do this only once per month.

The Fandango bucks option, I'm not sure how many times you can do it. You can then use them to pay for movie tickets.

These options are both good on new releases as well.

We opened ours first (not premier, he didn't want to do annual fee, but he may change his mind, is it easy to upgrade?) in order to be able to join our parents for their anniversary DCL this year (which came 1 month after our 7 Day CCL and 3 days of Disney unexpectedly) so being able to use the 6 months interest free was literally the only chance we had of getting on that ship with them.

When we booked the cruise that way, we got the $50 on board credit, and when we got home, we had another $50 gift card waiting for us for spending a certain amount (Twinkie went to the spa and had a 'ball', and when everything went on shipboard account -on this card- she wrote me out a check, and wala! even more points!) and though we have only had it two months, we have accrued $66 Disney dollars so far. So that means that in addition to being able to take the cruise at all in the first place due to the financing, we have gotten $166 disney dollars value from it in our first 2 months. This is with the 1% card, not 2% premier card (though the 'math' i calculate every time I pay a power bill or buy a batter for my car etc would be a lot more fun if it was 2%...)

Given that we are enjoying using the Visa (and that seeing Nemo and Squirt perk us up every time knowing that it is stuff we have to buy and knowing that it gets us even closer to our next trip, tickets, or cruise), my honey decided that we will phase out all use of our Venture card (which has never gotten us ONE ticket! not a one!) and so we are concentrating on paying that guy off and then will refocus our efforts into the new Disney card, in which the more we get caught up, the more dollars we will get applied because it is now our primary use card.

My only sadness is that sam's won't take it! Everytime i go there, I spend $100. I have use MC for that. <---sticking tongue out meanly at Sams club.

I get excited every month when I go to check my rewards!

If you have another trip planned, switch before - you'll recoup the annual fee in no time due to the extra 1%. Also note that big stores like Target and WalMart are sometimes categorized as grocery stores and hence get the extra 1%.

We have a regular Disney Visa (1%) and it's great for the 6 months interest free when booking. I also have a Target card and getting the 5% is much better when buying the Disney Gift Cards...imo.
