They're at all the diners here. Just a regular burger topped with mozzarella and tomato sauce.

I have a different idea of what they are...

I'm from Western PA, and when I was in elementary school, pizza burgers on the lunch menu meant a hamburger bun, opened up with sloppy joe on it and then a slice of American cheese on top. These were baked in the oven. Sound familiar to anyone else?

I've heard of them. Not sure they rise to the level of being a "delicacy" though.

I didn't think they were that rare! The people that I was talking to about it like to act as if my hometown is really bizarre and backwoods. I think it gives them a sense of superiority or something.

The pizza burgers I make are served on split English muffins.

Hamburger, chopped onion, browned and drained. Add oregano, garlic salt, or Italian seasoning, and pizza sauce. Spoon onto English muffins, sprinkle with parmesan and top with a slice of cheese. Bake or broil until cheese is bubbly and melted.

I saw a commercial for boston pizza the other day that featured the burger pizza. My first reaction to it was "ewww gross!". But I would try it given the opportunity thou. If it were given to me for free.

I don't eat burgers but around here they are on the menus at all the diners and pizza parlors. Bun, hamburger (ground beef patty), tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese.

When I was a kid, a pizza "burger" was sandwich bread, sauce, cheese, and toppings put together and cooked in a sandwich maker

With cheese in the middle, right? This is what I remember.

My DH makes awesome pizza burgers. He takes half Italian sausage and half regular ground beef, browns it, drains, then adds pizza sauce to make sort of a pizza sloppy joe. He then puts mozzarella cheese on the top along with other stuff - mushrooms for me, and pepperoni. I think he toasts it as well. Yum!
