Room Catagorys

How do they work? Is a category A better then a Cat B?

Usually the Cat B is either smaller slightly or its situated in an area that is not as premium on the ship ie lower floor. See this info- there are loads of differences depending on room Type etc.

Click below and then click room type and you will see the Differences.

Lower numbers are perceived to be better than higher numbers, and earlier letters of the alphabet better than later letters. You will see huge differentiation between numbers in the room type and layout. Letter differentiations can be very slight, such as the exact same cabin layout but in a slightly more desired location (midship, vs fore or aft; higher deck etc.) . There are exceptions to this. For example and 8A and an 8B have entirely different configurations. However, it is all a matter of opinion. Some might perceive the 8A to be better than the 8B because of room size and extra porthole and different layout, while others might not think it is better due to lack of split bath.

Having the varying categories on one page can be helpful to understand.

I booked a 9a GTY. All the state rooms in this category are booked, so I was trying to fiver out if we would get upgraded to the next room or not. Thank you for your help.

If you are booked GTY then that does not mean that all the staterooms in that category are booked. When a category is GTY it means that a certain percentage of the category is booked. I recently booked 9A GTY and was not upgraded. I was assigned a 9A accessible room and since we don't require an HA room, I paid to upgrade to a 7A which was also GTY. We were upgraded from the 7A to a 5B. Hope this helps.

Not all rooms available show up online. I found this out when I searched different ships/dates trying to find connecting rooms. With no luck I finally booked and called just to be sure, surprise the ship was practically empty and I had my choice of rooms.
