Your review of the tour was great but now I'm thinking that it doesn't really live up to the description and there's certainly somethings missing from what you received.

From the DCL site:

On this tour you will:
  • If you ever wanted to experience a taste of Mexico's traditional tequila, Discover Mexico Park is the perfect setting for this experience. Start you tour with a short 5-minute transfer to the Discover Mexico Park. Here you will take an approximate 20-minute self-guided tour of the Museum and view an immersive video collage that takes you to different corners of this marvelous country.
  • Admire handcrafts fashioned by native artisans in the onsite museum and trace the evolution of Mexico's ancient civilization as you tour replicas of Chichén Itzá and other pyramids and reproductions of grand monuments and cathedrals.
  • Next you will be delighted with a sample presentation of several different white and aged tequilas of surpassing quality, including tequila crème and liquor. You will learn the history of tequila and the process of this spirit that has been made for centuries. You will return an expert on the subject!
  • During your Taco Buffet lunch, experience 6 completely homemade salsas and learn how to make margaritas from scratch! Included in your lunch are 3 beverages (margaritas, sodas or beer.)
  • After your lunch, watch a live Papantla Flyers presentation in the courtyard.
  • At the completion of your tour, take the short drive back to the pier.
Important Additional Information
  • Lunch includes: Tinga tacos (beef), Cochinita pibil tacos (pork), Chorizo and potato tacos and 6 different salsas. Beverages include: Tequilas: anejo, reposado, blanco, cream of tequila, soda, margarita, beer and bottled water.
so no 20 minute self guided tour, no tequila creme to try, no (included) margarita's, I didn't see 6 salsa's and 3 kinds of tacos, and no Papantla Flyers presentation?

The DCL site also shows a very different room for the tequila tasting (with a short height, long table). Not only is my mother in a wheelchair but both my dad and I are just over 5 feet tall (well, I'm 5" and he's about 5"3) so the high tables would not work well for us either (nor do I want my mother to be separate from the two of us.....

Maybe this isn't the right tour for us

Beautiful artwork in the museum, I'm partial to the woven pieces as I love the detail.

It was all really neat, but we just glazed past it so I couldn’t really savor it.

What's in the bottle with the picture of the saint?

Oh and I like the real lived in stateroom photo.
They were having us take small sips, rub our hands with the coffee beans, smell them and take another sip. We would cleanse our palates with the crackers and do the same with the cinnamon. We did this with each of the tequilas. We didn’t end up doing anything with the rinds of the limes.

Lunch looks delicious. The whole excursion sounded very nice. Was the reserve tequila anything special? How was the tamarind margarita?
Sadly this TR is probably the only time that they will be displayed. The tamarind margarita was really unique! I enjoyed the reserve tequila, it was very smooth, not like I remember Anejo tequila that I remember.

I'm not trying to defend anyone, but as far as not living up to the description, the only thing that I think we actually missed is the Paplanta Flyers.

  • We did "admire" handcrafts by native artisans during our lunch, they just weren't as classy of handcrafts that I hoped. We did see some of the replicas, but didn't get a lot of time to look at them.

  • We definitely did this, and it took a little longer than we expected. The crème tequila liquor was sampled in the gift shop. That's the bottle that we bought to take home.

  • The guy who made the tamarind margarita, explained and demonstrated the entire process, he did also show us how to make one with Margarita mix as well. If you count the guacamole as a "salsa" there were six sauces. I found this definition online and technically it qualifies. "A spicy sauce of chopped, usually uncooked vegetables or fruit, especially tomatoes, onions, and chili peppers, used as a condiment." We got the Margarita before lunch, and we could have had a soda and a beer.

We did not see the Papantla Flyers, but that didn't matter that much to me. We were taken back to the pier at the completion of the tour.

You are correct, there were no Chorizo or potato tacos. There were French Fries and Quesadillas and beans which were not mentioned, so they may have substituted these. As I said above, there were six different vegetable/fruit based toppings on the bar, and in translation I can see the error. We were served anejo, reposado and blanco in the tasting room. We were made a margarita in the tequila bar. Fran had soda, I had water and we were urged to drink a corona with lunch, we opted to purchase a margarita as we prefer that beverage. They had the cream of tequila in the gift shop. I didn't get a picture of the taste of that.

There were no Papantla Flyers, but I really wasn't that concerned with that. I know the description makes it sound like they will be serving overflowing glasses of tequila, margaritas, and beverages, but I think they represented fairly well what we would get.

As far as "no self guided tour", if there had been 10-20 people, we would have been left on our own to go through the art. But when 20 minutes was up, I'm sure that they would have rounded up everyone and told us to move on regardless of whether we had seen the entire exhibit or not.

I believe that the Tasting room was finished fairly recently and they were very new at conducting the tours there. They may have previously used another room. I'm only 5'3" and I had no problem with the stools, but they were very obliging and would bend over backwards to seat you all together.

Whether or not this is the tour for you, I can't say. However, at least you have seen photos of the place and you have an idea of what to expect. We had a good time and I never felt "separated" from Fran, she was right next to me. I hope that I have helped you to make a decision.

We left the port at Cozumel around 4PM. We were already back in the room well before the ship set sail. I’m not exactly sure what we did to pass the time. I think we checked out the Art Gallery. I know that the only Drinks of the Day that I missed were the first and third days, so we must have stopped by the bar to get a Blue Margarita. We may have just relaxed in the room. When I look back at my postings on this thread, it seems that I was in the room at 5:43PM, so maybe I was writing up the TR.

We also had requested several quotes on future cruises, but couldn’t get an accessible room with a verandah for the Panama Canal cruise, and none of the others we asked about really were all that great a deal or that appealing. We probably started to rethink our options. I know that we were back in the room for the Sunset because I snapped these off our verandah.

This was semi-formal night and some of the characters were going to be out, so I tried to hurry Fran up to get dressed as this was the last night for pictures. We learned that the hard way on the last cruise. Fran snapped some lobby shots while we waited in line for the characters.

I got Cinderella. And I just noticed as I was posting these that they got the date wrong on here.

And Tiana

We both posed with Mickey. This is one I’m going to put in the frame that we bought.

We waited in line for a long time, and the gal was taking so long with each couple, that after we were 15 minutes late for dinner, we bailed on the line and decided to come back after dinner to get one of just the two of us. This was the Captain’s Gala menu, so pretty much everyone in the dining room was ordering Lobster Tail.

So tonight we got creative. Nothing on the appetizer menu really appealed to us, so instead we ordered the Seafood Salad from the Light Note Offerings and asked our waiter to split it for us. That really hit the spot.

The she ordered the Wild Forest Mushroom Soup.

I go the Minestrone. I think I liked it, I remember pretty much eating it all.

[Continued from Previous Post]

I think this was the night that I ordered a bottle of the Sancerre to go with dinner since we were eating mainly fish. Our beverage server kept what we didn’t finish for me for the following night. I’m pretty sure that everyone at our table ordered the Lobster tail. Here was another one of those Texas twists to the cruise. I just checked my pictures from the Wonder Cruise and while the Lobster was also served over a “Bean Casserole”. It was a mixture of beans. Here they served it with red beans and rice.

Sorry, both my menu pictures are blurry. I hope you can make them out.

Fran got the Amaretto Cheesecake

I ordered the Apple Pie a la Mode

Our desserts took kind of an extra long time and we thought about leaving since we wanted to take more pictures. But I realized why when this arrived. I had forgotten that he brought me one two nights before because of all the tequila tasting! Unfortunately this one completely fell after I took the picture.

After dinner we took some pictures without characters.

We came back to our room to find this.

Bittersweet because we were starting our last day. Oh yeah, and somewhere in there (probably the night of the Tequila tasting), we had decided that in addition to the chocolate tasting, on the last day we wanted to do the Mixology class. I had purchased the tickets one of the evenings after dinner. I don’t remember which evening (which is why I think it was the Tequila tasting evening), so we had that coming tomorrow as well. We nodded off to sleep with some Disney feature droning on in the TV.

Love love love the formal pic with Mickey.

Your sunset photos are stunning.

Was the red beans and rice odd with lobster? The desserts looks yum, even the fallen one.

So we can order an entree spilt to as an appetizer? Michael and I will do that often with a ravioli or other sharable pasta and have it as an app vs an entree.

I didn't try my sundresses on and they're too big. I need to run to Kohl's tomorrow and exchange them. I'm just too damn short.

I can't wait to print it at Costco and frame it, we just keep having life get in the way!

I thought it was a little odd, but since I filled up on the salad and such, I only ate the lobster.

I think you can order whatever you want. As passengers we don't want to waste anything, but the servers are such pushers and enablers, they encourage you to get whatever.

I wish I had that problem with my dresses!

Great update. Love the pictures of you and Fran; and the one with Mickey.

The sunset is amazing from the verandah. Thanks for sharing. And I'm now hungry for souffle and the lobster.

Glad the servers a pushers because like you said, we don't waste, but for sure we want to try as much as we can. Sharing seems like the perfect way to do it.

The photo is so frame worthy. Not sure where you're wearing your red dress Wed. night but hope its somewhere fun!

I updated my DVC report.

Great update, beautiful sunset pictures!

Tiana's dress looks too big on her...

Love the Mickey one, definitely frame worthy.

Dinner looks delicious. This is not a menu we've had yet. I see plenty of things we both would like. So sweet of your server to bring you a souffle was it good? it looked a little dark.

Oh I can't wait to hear what cruise you booked

The sunset is amazing from the verandah. Thanks for sharing. And I'm now hungry for souffle and the lobster.
Yeah, the lobster sounds pretty good to me right now too! I do really like the one of me and Fran with Mickey. I just need to find the time to upload it to Costco and pick it up.

One of my dresses that I brought on the last cruise was floor length and I had the tailor hem it to just below my knees. The funny thing was that I only paid $15 for the dress at K-mart and that how much the tailoring cost! Now it's one of my favorites!

They really do keep trying to give you more and more food. I feel guilty about wasting it. I hope it's fun! I hope that I feel up to wearing the red dress tonight. My knee is killing me.

That last soufflé he bought wasn't quite as good as the other...the info on the cruise is coming very soon!
