Destination brides don't pay for their guests travel or lodging.

I didn't pay for my guests and if I was a guest I certainly wouldn't think the bride and groom wold pay for me.

You don't want people to come because they get a paid vacation to Disney, you want them to come because they want to be there for you. As it is the general opinion, it is your wedding and you should have it your way, rather than listening to your mother. and, on the positive side, you will have more to spend for your honeymoon!

I don't think it's tacky at all. Plenty of people have destination weddings without paying for their guests' travel expenses. I also would not be offended if not everyone shows up, though.
