On our last MedCruise '10, several of our disboarders had their luggage lost. One magically appeared right before we left the port. The others had their luggage delivered at the next port.

But, just to reduce the amount of 3rd party errors

My DD10 wants to bring everything but the kitchen sink

This is our current challenge.
This is why we're willing to drive 5 hours to ATL to have a non-stop flight rather than flying from home to ATL to BCN - we figure if we at least have our luggage checked in at ATL in plenty of time, then there is less of a chance of it getting left behind. I've had where my luggage has gone without me and been waiting for me when I arrived yet I had to spend the night in the connection city. Miserable.

Do you guys have a general packing list that you use for cruising or do you make a new one each time? Do you plan "outfits" for each day or do you just count how many pairs of pants, shirts, skirts, etc. to bring and sort it out when you get there? I've done it both ways which have worked fine, usually making sure that I have whatever I need for ports that might have specific dress requirements (like covered knees, etc.). I have an app I was thinking about using but will likely end up just making an Excel file.

Last time we flew, we spent 3 days sight-seeing in Philadelphia and had a wonderful time. However, due to the increased airfare prices, we have to go straight through this time.

We have a detailed packing list and going to try to lay everything out and take 50% of the clothing out. We realized that we packed WAY too much the last MedCruise. I am contemplating whether to have our formal outfits shipped via USPS International Priority Mail/Express Mail.

I will have to go over the packing list again with my DD10. She loves to match her clothing. My DD13 is more into comfort than matching. Total opposite

DD10 loves the 80's and loves to dress in neon colors (yellow, teal, orange). DD13 is a swimmer and loves to wear tank tops, t-shirts, shorts, and flip-flops. She has grown so rapidly that I need to wait a couple more weeks until I buy her another pair of walking shoes.

I hear ya - my boys have hit too many growth spurts a week before vacation or school starting - just when you think everyone is outfitted, suddenly the pants are too short, the shirts are too small, the shoes are pinching their toes.

When I've done outfits before, I do it so that each item of clothing has at least two days assigned to it; if it only has one, then it doesn't go. I pre-plan washing days (which we sometimes wash earlier but we know if we haven't washed by then, then someone will be nekkid). FWIW, I don't plan outfits for DH or the boys - I just tell them how many pairs of shorts, t-shirts, pants, and collared shirts that they need, toss in x number of pairs of socks and underpants, a swimsuit, extra t-shirt for the pool / beach / sun coverage, and pjs if they want them. Boys are so much easier

Add cabin number to spreadsheet

Seems like the Roll Call spreadsheet is locked, so can someone who has the permission to change information on the spreadsheet add our cabin number to it?

We were GTY, we are now in Cabin 2546.

Thank you,

Pete & Faith

This sounds crazy, but bring a compact umbrella. We were in LaSpezia 3 years ago and it started raining. We purchased an umbrella from the street vendor. It broke after a couple of hours.

Wow! Did it rain. When we returned to the boat around 3 p.m., the water was so choppy. Then, it progressively became worse by 7 p.m. There were 4 tender boats that had to circle around to try to get some "stability". The water was extremely choppy that it started to make the boat rock. My DH became seasick and had to get some Dramamine. Then, half of our late-seating crew were late.

Sorry to break off in a tangent, but bring some motion sickness medication. Take some before you get on the boat.

My DH sails alot on the San Francisco Bay and off the coast of Santa Cruz. He doesn't get motion sickness, but the time in LaSpezia... he became sick to his stomach.

As for the rest of our family, I always made sure that we took Dramamine. I just wanted to make our cruise experience happy.

We always have bonine and umbrellas. DH bought us all good umbrellas for our Alaska cruise and we take them everywhere. A foldable raincoat is good to have as well

We bring raincoats because for some reason I can't make the kids use umbrellas. They're weird but it's a great idea to have something for the rain.

That's great! Please keep me posted as to the train ride. That's what we were planning to do, but couldn't make it work out with the children's school schedule.

Sounds like fun!

When should I start worrying if I have not received it?

We are definitely of the "pack some underwear" in your carryon camp; and really in the "pack an outfit" in your carryon camp. We've only had one time where anyone had to have it mid-travel and that was when a Sprite exploded all over one of the boys in the Houston airport during a layover. Because he had a change of clothes, he was able to get cleaned up and not have to be wet and sticky for the rest of the trip. We started packing a change after a friend of ours was stuck in the middle seat and the old man next to him peed on himself and it got all over our friend - eeewwwwww.... and he didn't have a change with him AND his luggage didn't make it. Double-eewwwww...

I hadn't thought to get an umbrella because the boys just prefer a light jacket or to get wet; I usually bring ponchoes but they do tend to get heavy in the day bag. When we did the Baltic, the night before we ported in Oslo, DCL provided ponchoes to everyone because it was supposed to rain. We had brought some from home but used the ones they gave us instead (DL Paris). We were glad to have them so the rain didn't "dampen" our touring plans for the day

I did pick up sunscreen and after-sun-soother for the trip because I've read a lot on cruise critic about being especially mindful of the Grecian sun. We are also considering a Hawaiian cruise for next summer if we can get in at Aulani, so I've been reading up on them and the after-sun is something that is on nearly all of the packing tips I've seen. Hopefully it will be an "unused" item but at least we'll have it if we, or anyone we know, needs some.

I picked up Bonine and non-drowsy Dramamine today; we had smooth seas in 2007 but have read that the Med can get quite rough at times, and since we'll be in new waters when we hit the Aegean, better safe than sorry. DH has never been effected by the motion, but Nathan and I have to take Bonine early on sailaway day. And then if we're doing something that might be a small boat ride, we'll take it that day as well.

Our FE's are done except for adding the cabin numbers for the GTYs that are getting their cabin assignments, so that will soon be checked off our list. I have a couple more name tags to do for the folks who have just signed on; I'll have these for everyone at the Meet/Greet on the first day - they just slip in your lanyard if you want. We got our door magnets done a few days ago, so I just need to take the ones off our front door that we want and add them to the "to be packed" box.

whew - I feel like I have made progress Gary and the boys just shake their heads when I say I don't want to wait til the last minute - they are like "but it's still over a month away" - they would wait til the day before we leave to even think about packing and that's when they'd find out they didn't have enough x, y, or z. I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm working a full day the day before we leave and won't get home til about 7 PM and do NOT want to stay up til after midnight doing stuff that could have been done a couple of weeks in advance. And no last-minute-run to Walmart either.
