LAPTOP for my son...

I need to buy my son a laptop!

he does NOT want a netbook - too small for him.

I am looking to spend under $400 - he will be using it to surf the web, write papers - play games..

any recommendations?

He is turning 13 years old - going into 8th grade next year.

I agree with no netbook; they are on the way out due to the popularity of tablets.

Acer makes a good inexpensive laptop.

I would suggest a laptop with the intel i3 processor in it. Most laptops with that processor are around the $400 price.

Just search amazon for "i3 laptop" and you will see tons of options.

My grown daughter just recently started back to school and needed a laptop. She bought an inexpensive one from walmart. Idk what brand, 15 inch screen. She works for the fed govt so she got her Microsoft code through a program from there for $10. Then she purchased a cheap printer. It works fine for school papers and such. She also has an iPad....that she only uses on occasion. She actually like the laptop better.

You say "play games"... what games?

That will have the biggest impact as to what you will need.
