Thanks! Most things packed apart from last minute items - 2 bags with room for more ; cleaned bathrooms and vacuumed bedroom end of house today. Trip to Vet for some stuff and vacuum rest of house tomorrow. Ants have invaded my corner of the bedroom-sigh. We have poisoned a nest there before-looks like they are back so get DH onto it when he gets home tonight.

Lunch with friends Thursday to a place I haven't been before-Croatian so that should be interesting. Cranky though my walking (Teva) sandals are now giving me blisters-like the surface of the foot pad is wearing off. Only done 1 overseas trip but guess I have worn them quite a bit to work and days out here-my previous pairs (diff brand) have lasted longer though. So no point taking them for long days walking in Spain. Will take my little sandals instead-can walk long periods in them but they will make my legs more achy. Don't mention crocs-I have skinny long feet and they just don't fit me though DH loves them.

DH is starting to make a LONG list of reminders for DD who has the (scary-DH can be very scary!! ) responsibility for locking up this place/turning off the water (we're on tanks)/etc etc, when she joins us 2 weeks later! rather her than me!

I think a new pair of Teva's are in order.

Sounds like you have everything well in hand; except for the ants. Hope that DH gets on to that ASAP.

Poor DD. I don't envy her.

So close! I never know whether those last few days are the best or the worst with all the stuff that always needs organising

I have a list from DH of what to do around the house before we leave (he has already left for a conference in Las Vegas), so l know how your DD feels - that list is sitting over there freaking me out!! I will do some of the things the night before, but others I can't do until the morning that we go - and we are leaving the house at 6.15am - so no wonder it's scaring me!!

Once we're in the car I'll feel great - just get me through the next 7 days!!

Ouch! Those Teva's are not sounding too good. Are your sandals the only option? You already say they make your legs ache so I'm worried with all the walking you'll be doing.

I know-not sure either. Not having to work this past 2 weeks has made things heaps easier than usual (though not so good for spending money!)

Lists are good Sounds like an even earlier start for you though. Think we have to leave around 5.30am but luckily less for us to do this time round and DD just has to roll out of bed to take us to the airport.

Your time to leave is getting closer

I have my proper hiking shoes that will be used for the cold climes - decided no need for my "city boots" as much as I'd like to take them as eg will mostly be hiking wet, boggy moors in Scotland not spending oodles of time in city streets other than Paris - so I will look like a tourist!! Also popped in little flats if I need to look a bit dressy. Expect will now wear hiking shoes for any Spanish long days eg roaming around the Alhambra-I'll be the fashionista in hiking boots and shorts and cap (). Also hope to buy a new pair of sandals in Spain (sexy not walking )

OT-I have finally learnt how to multi-quote

I'm worried about your feet now too. In terms of Crocs, I don't have the normal ones, I don't like the look of them so much but I do have these and could walk for days and days and it feels like I'm walking on a pillow when I wear them:-

Enjoy these last few hectic tidy up days. You will be having fun in no time.

Thanks. Might have to check them out in store and then if OK buy a pair on-line but no time this trip!

Last minute dramas. SIL in Darwin had one of those freaky accidents - it was their wedding anniversary but the kids wanted to go crabbing so off they went, walking down a muddy track, she turned to make sure they were behind her, not looking where she was going, stumbled over a rut she thinks and managed to fall very awkwardly and break her leg-both the big (tibia?) bone and smash a smaller one near the ankle. She's in hospital now in quite a bit of pain but they keep delaying surgery to put in plates and pins until the swelling goes down-now scheduled for next Monday.

Why a drama for us? MIL is flying up to Darwin to help out BIL with the three youngish (primary school) kids=had to find alternative carer for our old (15 yo) dog Pepper. Ring around friends and luckily our ex neighbours are able to have him. They are doggie people and currently have a young, completely lunatic, Red Kelpie. I know whilst they will take good care of him, poor old Pep would have been happier pottering slowly around being spoilt with Granny but SIL needs are much greater.

They have had one of those years when everything keeps going wrong. BIL has only just got out of hospital himself after a shoulder op and the place they are renting was sold so they had to find a new place to move to, not easy with the 3 kids + their menagerie of dogs, cats, lizards, birds-Darwin is a tough renters market and horrendously dear rents. They were just settled in a new place in Palmerston, SIL had just got a promotion at work, BIL back at work in a new job which put less stress on his shoulder, and now this happens! Hopefully this is the last thing and they have a better run ahead.

Glad we got Pep sorted (Aus. Karen will appreciate the fact he's a mini Schnauser)-he has never had to go to kennels as years ago we had both sets of parents who used to alternate the dog and cat minding while we were away and now he's far too old to cope, if they'd even take him. It is getting harder though as my list of potential carers is rapidly diminishing! = DH says no more pets after Pep goes. I really miss having a cat though-if we find a nice cattery and the cat gets used to going when its young, I can't see a problem (other than extra $)???!

Poor SIL - that sounds very painful Hopefully their luck turns around soon.

Glad to hear you managed to find a back-up carer for your dog though
