Need some Tupperware help, please!

It's been years since I've been to a Tupperware party or even bought any products. I do remember a tall cylinder type "bowl" with a cover that you would use for a head of lettuce or salad.

Well my MIL gave me hers since she never used it. I just washed it and put 3 bags of salad in it. It does have two white "buttons" that you can keep opened or closed depending on what you have inside of it, I guess.

Can you tell me if these buttons should be opened or closed? Thanks

I would keep them open. Lettuce will start to rot if it's kept too wet.

Thanks. I'll open them up. Should I also keep a paper towel inside of it to absorb the moisture?

I'm not sure if the round ones are the same - I have the square blue ones with the ridges on the bottom. But the paper that came with those has lettuce under "medium" - one vent open, one closed.
