Buying a vacation package vs. buying room and tickets separately

Hi there - got a quote on the Disneyland website for a vacation package and then looked into the same tickets and same hotel booking separately.

Package for 3 nights/4 day park hopper with magic morning is $966 for 2 adults.

Booking separately - 3 nights at hotel is $190, 4 day park hopper with magic morning is $550, total $740

Does anyone know what sort of bang I might be getting for my $226 if I book the package?

What do you get as part of a package you don't get by just buying a room and then buying tickets? And is it worth $226?

I always thought the whole point of buying a package was saving $$.

Thanks team.

What hotel are you able to get three nights for $190?

Did you book it direct through a hotel or is this some hotel.com type rate?

Don't forget to add 17% tax on your hotel stay!

The quoted package price through Disney includes that 17% tax.

Not much! The Disneyland.com package info should show you what you get, but generally it's a lanyard with a plain clear plastic pouch (most people replace the pouch b/c it's not very good), maybe a pin. A few little things, priority seatings, etc.

It's always good to really check out the prices, and you have done so. I would just book straight through Motel 6, buy the tickets through disneyland.com when you are closer to your trip, and have fun with the savings. Going a la carte also gives you more time to cancel if you need to, and you generally pay the hotel (or the bulk of the hotel) when you're there, instead of 45 days out.

Thanks for the feedback - and yes, I factored in the tax.

It's only $59 a night, the motel has been newly refurbished. Cheap and , but all you really want is a clean room, a clean bed, a shower and somewhere to store the luggage.

There are many people who are impressed by that Motel 6. I haven't yet stayed there, but someday I will!

Wow, i'd never looked into the property before your post, their rooms look nice and the rates are great!

I see they mention a DL shuttle on their site - do you know if it's their shuttle or ART?

We are staying at Anaheim Plaza this trip but will keep this one in mind for next time! There's always a next time for Disneyland

It's probably that the hotel isn't providing Disney its lowest room rate. Usually Disney gets hotel room at the wholesale rate, which makes the packages cheaper vs. making a room-only reservation directly with the hotel. I had though hotels were required to provide Disney their lowest rates, but perhaps not.

Your package would need to be pre-paid, and the cancellation policies would be stricter. I'd go with the cheaper option. Really, the only thing you'll miss out on is receiving Disneyland luggage tags in the mail and getting to schedule a pre-trip recorded character call.

We are AAA members and I book packages every year through AAA. It saves us at least $500 vs. room/tix separately. (fam of 4, @ PPH 4 days + 3 day 1 park tix) Package prices can vary, but bottom line, we always save money with a package deal. The AAA package includes: Free parking at theme parks - this is great if you're staying off-site, 1 5x7 Disney attraction photo memory, AAA vacation pin, lanyard, and luggage tag, extra magic hour, Disney character call, and the AAA Diamond Savings card for merch/food in DTD - which saves quite a chunk of dough after a week in the resort. You can also get 20% off park tours with this card, but AAA card offers the same.

I read the fine print on the AAA parking:

Receive complimentary parking at Disneyland Resort Theme Parks with your AAA Vacations package.
#Valid Disneyland Resort souvenir tickets serves as FREE Parking Pass at Mickey & Friends Parking Structure.

I wonder if this means anyone with a valid DL resort ticket can park at the M&F parking structure free?

Here's the site I referenced: http://www.disneywebcontent.com/dcc/...0d864a8c0RCRD/
