Question cruiser during winter?

someone has traveled in the cruiser during winter. Especially in the Fantasy or dream. With visits to Nassau Bahamas, as is the climate for that time and as it is in castaway. What is your experience in the cruiser in December?

two cruises in December resulted in missing the private island because the water had become to rough, once it was in the 70's the other in the 80's. just google average december temperature Bahamas... Nassau is only about 60 miles from Castaway Cay.

The major thing to remember in the winter is that whatever weather that Central Florida has, will make Its way to the Bahamas within a day or so. If we get winds and rain within 48 hours Nassau and CC gets it. During the average winter well see 1 or 2 cold fronts a week that pass over us into the Atlantic.

We have done 2 westerns and an eastern in early December. It was beautiful weather each time. Cruised in early January twice. The 3 night was nice. The western was nice at first but turned stormy and cold after Cozumel. That was the only cold day we have had on CC.

We went this past Dec. on the Fantasy (western) it was nice but too cold to swim (disclaimer: we're from Florida). This was the case for us in Jan & Feb too. In March we let DD swim at CC in a wetsuit. It all depends on your tolerance.

I'd cruise in Dec again in a heartbeat because of the Christmas decorations on the ship and at CC tho!!!

We just did a B2B in December 2012. The first trip to Castaway Cay was gorgeous; the second was nice but windy so all of our excursions were cancelled. It was still nice enough to eat outside at Serenity Bay and to spend time on the ship on the Aquaduck (7 times in a row) and by the pool. This was on the Dream.

We've also done both Eastern and Western Caribbean in December. Weather was very nice. Much warmer and it would be too hot for us. Both of those were on the Magic.

As others have stated, it's also worth it for the Christmas decorations both on the ship and at Castaway Cay.

Given your location, I assume that you will be used to the weather at that time. So it's not like you're coming from somewhere snowy, with a greater allowance for what might feel warm to you. With that in mind I'm not sure that a December cruise would feel as nice ot you as one during warmer times.

When searching for other answers for this, remember that "winter" doesn't even start until the 21st or so. If you're going earlier in December, you're still looking at Fall weather. Might be better to search for both Fall and Winter cruising conditions.

We went on the dream in late January 2012. We couldn't have had a better cruise. Weather was perfect everyday hot sunny, not a drop of rain. It was smooth sailing the entire time. We had a great day at castaway cay. We had such a great time were heading back January 2014.

I just did the 8nt Bahama cruise on Feb 1st. We have BEAUTIFUL weather, including in and out of Texas. It was actually nicer coming back into Texas, around 70. Our CC day was absolutely stunning. No wind. Amazing sunny sky. And warm warm water. (disclaimer, I'm from Ontario). But really, just took a beach chair, plunked it in the water, and spent my day there. As well, our day at Port Canaveral was great.

So overall, my Feb winter cruise was beautiful!!

We were on the same sailing as Silverfox 97 (hi Emily ) and loved the Xmas decorations as well - breathtaking! I personally had never cruised in December before and I found the weather itself to be perfect on the ship and in Port Canaveral because I wasn't sweating to death. It was still fairly warm and in the ports (Western) it was VERY warm - high 80's and I think the heat index put it in the 90's. It seems it will always be warm in some locations and I just had to remind myself of that. My mom and I are not water or beach people so we enjoyed Castaway Cay by walking around and doing other things besides getting in the water so I can't talk to the water temperature as others have mentioned. I would not hesitate to cruise in December again. Strangely enough - it was warmer than our first Dream cruise in June since there was a tropical depression following us and it rained a lot, very overcast, etc. during that particular Dream sailing.

Enjoy,
Heather
