9C GTY or 10A SPH room to Alaska?

Which one would you book if you had these two options.

9C GTY $6000
10A SPH $6400

This is for a family of 4 to Alaska.

What is the lowest category of oceanview? Is there a chance I could get deck 1 with a 9C guarantee?

Lowest oceanview category is 9D. Deck 1 only has 9Ds on it. So with a 9C GTY you'll be on deck 2 or higher.

We always book 9C GTY. We've usually been assigned 9B rooms.

No brainer... SPH! You will be on Deck 5 and it is a great location. We have been in those rooms 2x, love love love them, even with the partial view.

I'd go with the 10A SPH. Personally, $400 is worth it to me to be on a higher deck than deck 2.

Oh! Are all 10A secret portholes or just some of them? Looking at a Magic sailing in Dec. Currently on 11B (deck 5 or 6 - can't remember), but might stretch it if so...

Not all of them - there are 6 of them and all are deck 5 forward.

Alaska is a little different and a lower deck has its advantages. We saw quite a bit of sea life from our 2nd floor room. Since there is so much daylight and you will be closer to the water, you can spot the sea life easier.

I would book the SPH because we like being forward on the ship and that is the only way to guarantee that you will be forward. I would also note to request not to be upgraded, since a 9D would be considered an upgrade from a 10A.

I am not a deck 2 fan so I would not want to be on this deck regardless of what I could see from my porthole. In fact, we would've rather have an inside room on a higher deck than the room we had on deck 2 (never again!!!). I know deck 2 has its fan; it's definitely not us. Personally, we are in the once-you-go-verandah-you-never-go-back group and would choose a Nav Verandah for Alaska. However, if I had to choose an OV, I'd go SPH any day on the classics, or Cat 8A on the new ships.

We've sailed verandah's so far. I'm trying to add a short and cheap 3day in Dec. on the Magic. So I currently have an 11A on deck 7 and thinking about moving to a 10A SPH for about $430.

Of course not sure if they announced yet what changes are coming to the Magic - if they add magical portholes, I might stay were I am...

No Magical portholes. Honestly, I'd keep the 11A for $430 savings, especially on a short 3-night. There's always a chance at a pixie dust upgrade!

OMG those prices are INSANE.

Is this for 2014? B/c seriously, those prices are insane. We had an 11B to Alaska last year for 3, it was probably $3200. No window, but we were out so much we didn't need one anyway. To each their own, but man your savings could go towards the helicopter excursion, dog sledding....
