Actually, that was the rumor just before the Hyperion Wharf announcement.

I didn't mention it, though there were rumors of THIS as well, but extremely unlikely they put a $20 million water show in an area with no admission charges.

As an overall comment. ALL rumors need to pass the "why would Disney do it?" reasoning.
Star Tours 2.0: Refresh a ride that people weren't riding anymore. Low cost relative to increased draw. (minor cost, minor benefit).

Fantasyland expansion: Expanding fantasyland would increase capacity in their most crowded park. (major cost/major benefit)

Avatar in DAK: Gives the park a E-ticket that would allow full-day customers reasons to expand park hours and increase capacity. Keeps people in the park longer which leads to more merchandise sales. (major cost/major benefit)

Carsland /Starwarsland at DHS (NOT confirmed): A seriously increased draw not only to DHS but also to WDW in general. Expand DHS beyond its limited park scope. (Realizing that DHS has the lowest attendance of a WDW park - lower than DAK even.) (major cost/major benefit)

Now, let's put replacing Illuminations with World of Color to the same test: "Why would Disney do it?" It's wouldn't likely increase draw to Epcot/WDW. You might get an inital bump in attendance from a new show, but try and find a spot around WS lagoon on a typical night right now. (Major cost/minor benefit - means not very likely.)

Another recent rumor thread - expanding Pirates of the Carribean ride. Major expense, no increase in capacity, minor draw to tourists. Doesn't work when answering the basic question. "Why would Disney do it?"

Agree. The setting isn't bad since space could be reserved along the water for viewing. But why would Disney ever want to deal with the cost and headaches (traffic, crowd control, etc.) involved with putting-on such a show each night?

It may draw some extra shoppers to Disney Springs but with most of the merchants and restauranteurs being non-Disney entities, there's just no reason for Disney to absorb those added costs.

Also Disney Springs presents the same problems with filtration. The waterway adjacent to DS runs all the way to Old Key West and POFQ. It would be a monumental undertaking to filter that water such that dirt, grime and other pollutants would not harm the equipment.

Agreed it would be too expensive for Disney springs considering the lack of admission. However, I could see them putting some type of evening show as draw to the area, to help drive commerce.

Even that doesn't pass the sniff test.

Does your local mall put on fireworks displays or water pageants to draw additional shoppers? Of course not. We can't just put on our Disney blinders and assume that any money invested into WDW property would turn to gold.

It's been said that Disney Springs will double the size of DTD. Probably 90-95% of all retail and restaurant space will be leased by third-party merchants. Disney is going to get those fees--and charge whatever they wish--regardless of whether there is a costly water show or not.

If WDW wants to add some entertainment to the area, they could follow the Disneyland model and bring in more local musicians and other performers. I'm guessing those folks work for next-to-nothing...or absolutely nothing...or maybe they even have to pay Disney for the right to perform & sell their CDs.

It's clear no such announcement was made yesterday. Yesterday I clicked on this thread expecting to see a link to a press release. There was already a thread where posters were discussing, speculating, what Disney would be announcing. Discussion including the possibility of Disney adding the world of color someplace in WDW. I was expecting a thread with definitive information, otherwise why not just join the posters already speculating about world of color.

A few of us made note of the fact that the OP offered no official information, despite the wording of the thread title. JMO but the only rude posters in this thread are the posters who insist some of us were wrong in correcting the OP.

NO DIS isn't some kind of secret club. New member meant posters were kind. There are posters on other internet forums, rare on DIS, who use a misleading thread topic in order to attract readers and "troll" to create an "active thread". None of us accused the OP of doing such a thing nor do I think she intended to do that. Had the thread been started by a poster who's been here longer I might have thought such a thing.

Again there was no official information in the OP, despite the claims in the subject. A few of us politely brought this up. Not sure why others have an issue. There isn't another side of view since the OP admitted she didn't even think it's true.

The reality is Disney could find a way to put World of Color wherever it wanted to do. The Lagoon could be drained, part of it used to host the show, part of it used for seating with much smaller section restored a the new lagoon. Do I think Disney will do this. NO. Is it a rumor, not really. My point is we can find a place where Disney could but the show in any park.

The Forums Shops by Caesars in Vegas have their statute shows. The mall connected to Planet Hollywood has their tropical thunderstorm. The Pier Shops in Atlantic City has a $7 million dollar water show.

Shopping areas in vacation destinations sometimes have "attractions" to motivate a visit from vacationers.. I'll agree Disney is more likely to do it on the cheap. Local entertainers and maybe a very small fireworks show.

Local malls frequently have live music. Yes a local group which will work for cheap.

Not quite the same thing but a local mall where I live used to have live penguins on display to attract shoppers to the store. (This was back in the late 50's- early 60's)

There's a difference between Disney putting a show at Disney Springs and Disney spending $50 - $100 million to put a show at Disney Springs. The former is possible, the latter highly unlikely.

I think Disney Springs needs some nighttime entertainment in order to draw the crowds and keep them late. However if they did a big-budget nighttime Spectacular, it would probably just cannibalize attendance at the parks. My feeling is that if they went down that route, it would be a more low-key affair. Something like moving the Electrical Water Pageant to Disney Springs, or creating a new, similar "water parade". I don't think it will ever happen, of course!

Hmm...they _could_ do this, if they wanted to make DTD/DS a bigger draw to the locals/offsite visitors, with the hope of boosting traffic/revenue at the surrounding shops and restaurants. I'm sure none of the tenants would say no...

I don't think I'm quite understanding why a lot of people are saying DAK would be good spot for WoC. Disney would have to reopen the park at night, and the noise level would have to be adjusted according to how close it is to their exhibits. I think Disney would put WoC at Disney Springs before DAK.

The best bet, IMO, would be bringing WoC to DHS down the road once Fantasmic starts to lose popularity.

Of course, those are all casino-related venues in highly competitive markets. Getting customers into the retail shops is secondary to the casino revenue they hope to attract.

At the end of the day, Disney Springs is really just a mall. It's a Disney-lovers dream mall...but still just a mall.

Any entertainment offered will be modest in scale. Certainly nothing like World of Color which reportedly cost $75 million to design and build plus millions more annually for operating costs, equipment maintenance, salaries, etc.

AFAIK the Fountains at Bellagio and the water show at the Pier shops are similar to WoC but much less elaborate. Some people have categorized WoC as the Fountains at Bellagio on steroids.

Disney could put much less elaborate version of WoC at a location like DTD. I don't think they would but lets not make the mistake of thinking WoC in WDW has to be a clone of the version in CA, although Disney does like to clone.

You want speculation, not even a rumor. WoC will eventually wind up at the Fantasmic location, when Disney thinks Fantamic has run its course
