We are cruising on the Magic Nov 24-29. It looks like we will have to fly into MIA arriving at 11:03am and fly out of FLL departing at 11:30am. Are these times doable? We've never cruise out of POM so this is new for us. TIA for your answers!

We cruised this last February. We drove in, but did pass the airport... It wasnt far at all, My only thing is if your plane gets delayed for any reason... Can you come in the day before? As for leaving the boat, we had the late breakfast, and got off the boat before 9, I think it's totally doable... Enjoy!

the shuttles are a disorganized mess (IMHO). Just take a taxi. It was $9 to go from the port to this lot (across the bridge, up a few blocks and then around and back down a block because of the one way streets).

Any specific taxi company? Or are there taxis already waiting at this place? Sounds like a taxi would be best.

Anyone know what time the transfer buses start leaving MIA to head to the port? I guess it is later them MCO since the trip is shorter between airport and cruise terminal.

Miami Hotels - Night Before Cruise

Any suggestions for hotels for the night before the cruise? I'm thinking of staying at Hampton Inn & Suites, Miami Airport South/ Blue Lagoon.

I've been reading through this thread for the last month and am still baffled. We sail 11/29, just changed our flight in so that we are not flying on Thanksgiving Day but instead will enjoy Wednesday at HS and Thursday at MK, we will head to Miami late that afternoon/early evening. My plan is to rent a car, and I think we will stay either on property or at a DTD hotel.

Staying at the Embassy Suites in Miami (gotta love their breakfast-especially for a family of five) Thursday night, but this is where I get stumped. I'm open for suggestions.

Should we turn in our rental and take a taxi to the Port or park it at the port the whole time.

We fly out of FLL so another ? if we turn in the rental do we take a taxi to FLL (around $80) from what I can see on the fare finder, or do we do another one way rental (probably least expensive option, but most hassle) or just hire a car service (probably similar in cost to the taxi).

Thoughts? Has anyone else stayed at the Embassy Suites? What do you think? Suggestions?

TIA

Some of the rental car companies have free shuttles to the port from MIA. We use Alamo for this reason. We also use SAS transportation to return to FLL, $15 a person.

We are renting a car in MCO and staying at WDW for 4 nights. Morning of the cruise we are driving down and I will return the car to Budget in MIA and take their shuttle to the port (I heard there was a shuttle but will call to confirm).

On the return we are flying out PBI as we are visiting family in Delray Beach and our flight is not until 5:00 pm. I reserved another Budget one day rental which we will pick up at MIA and drop off at PBI.

I toyed with keeping the rental at the port the whole time but it is a $100 less if I do 2 one-ways instead of leaving the car at the port., There was a mention of an off site parking place for only $4.50 per day if you didn't want to park for $20 per day at the port.

Thank you both for your input

I had looked at SAS and think that may be a good post cruise option. With our flight leaving at 2pm, its not like we have tons of time to hang out in Miami (plus I've been there before). I think we will do a one way rental and either stick with driving Thanksgiving night or the next morning, if anyone thinks that's feasible. Then drop it off and either shuttle or taxi to the port and lastly take SAS back to FLL after the cruise.
Thanks again!

Question on hotels and disability parking

Hi all -
We are traveling on the Magic for Christmas going out of Miami (Dec 22-27). We live in Tampa, but since it's around a 4 hour drive plan on driving down on Saturday. Also are there any hotels you would recommend staying at? Looking for one which may have free parking and have a shuttle to the cruise port.

If that doesn't work does anyone know about the disability parking. I read somewhere that there is free parking for the disabled. My worry is how far it is with the bags.

Any help is appreciated. This is our first Disney Cruise, but have gone on 5 other cruises, one which was out of Miami. That was when we lived in MN so flew in, and took a taxi to the port from the hotel.

Thanks for all your help!

Penny

Hi All,
I have been looking... Can 5 fit in a taxi? 2 adults, 3 children? I may just add on Disney transfers. I cruised out of Miami YEARS ago with girlfriends, so I do not remember.... Are there long lines for cabs?

Ok...I have been doing more reading on rental car shuttles and found this on CruiseCritic (cut and pasted. The post was from last year):

Quote:
National, Alamo, Enterprise, Dollar, and Thifty are the only companies that I can confirm have free shuttle service from the Rental Car Center located directly across from the Miami International Airport. Hertz and Avis have locations in downtown Miami where you can drop off and also pick up rental vehicles. Many posters complain that Hertz's downtown location is absolutely horrible, especially for vehicle returns. You have to leave the returned vehicle on the fifth floor of a parking garage. Then the Hertz customer service employee writes down your return mileage because that facility doesn't use hand held computers and gives you a slip of paper. You then go down to the ground level office and get on line to speak with another customer service agent to process the return. The same line also has customers who are waiting to rent a vehicle at that location. Getting back to the original subject, the same five companies provide free shuttle service back to the Rental Car Center from the Port Of Miami if you are renting a vehicle after the conclusion of your cruise. National, Alamo, and Enterprise share the same shuttle because they are owned by the same corporate company. Dollar and Thifty share their shuttles too. Some shuttle drivers will ask to see your car rental reservation when returning from the Port Of Miami because some cruise passengers are looking for free transportation back to Miami International Airport.
I also read on the Dis recently that a few people were told that Budget does not have a shuttle from MIA to POM. Based on that I switched my rental cars from Budget to Alamo. I booked with Costco for the one-way Alamo rental from MCO to MIA...it was the cheapest I could find.
