Stray Cat?

I just left POR and there was a grey cat wandering the area around bldg 16. I was able to touch him, but I don't think he looked all that healthy. Wondering if anyone else has seen him? He was friendly, but just a bit apprehensive. Strange to see a cat running around a resort at WDW.

Haven't seen them at other resorts, but when we stayed at SSR around 5 years ago we saw quite a few. They must have been feral, but like all wildlife at Disney, used to being around people. One followed us into our room. We had to call maintenance to get him/her out!

I doubt that you saw a stray. Much more likely to be feral. Although something WAAAAY in the back of my mind is thinking that I read somewhere (or heard from a bus driver) that Disney at one time used cats for rodent control in the distant past.

I heard that, too. This was a neutered, male cat and as I said, friendly. He rubbed around our legs and let us pet him.

For Disneyland, at least, one place the claim appears is http://www.homeaway.com/info/travele...ts-infographic.

This past September, while staying at the Poly (Fiji longhouse), we had a resort cat I named Paulie...don't know it was a he or she, but I still named him. I didn't pet him, but I got close enough for photos almost every night of our stay.

We have stayed there the last 3 years & this was the first time I had ever seen a cat on Disney property. He looks mean, but he was a sweetie.

One time a friend of mine and I were sitting on a bench in the hub at Disneyland. To our shock, 2 cats come out from under the railing! I've also seen a cat at the Grand Californian.

Have never seen that kind of a feral cat at POR but have seen a bobcat (or lynx as they call it in Florida, I think) on our last visit (2010).

It was about 9:30 at night, on the sidewalk near Alligator Bayou, Bldg. 38. The cat was standing under a street lamp as I was pushing my 2 year old grandson along in a stroller. It was about 20 feet away from us. The cat was about the size of a small dog, maybe 20-25 lbs, with a clipped tail and pointy ears.

It took a good long look at us. Feeling uneasy, I stepped in front of my grandson. Then the cat slipped into the shrubbery. Since it stood there under the light, and eyeballed us for about 20 seconds or so, I got a good look at it.

When I reported the incident, the CM told me I was mistaken. My response was that my group must be mass hallucinating then, because several other members also saw this or another bobcat, near two different quiet pools on two different nights.

After that, it felt a bit creepy walking around the Alligator Bayou section at night, especially with the dim lighting and that tropical vegetation crowding the walkways in places.
Thirteen family visits to the World...

Back whey they still had the kennels on-property, I had my cat there and one morning when we went to visit him, there was a tiny kitten in one of the other cages. A CM said it had been found in a box in the Epcot parking lot with a note and a blanket. Who ditches a kitten at WDW?! Maybe they thought it was a friendly place, but a parking lot? Luckily a CM had already stepped up to adopt it

I've seen cats at the Poly a few different times and I've heard the rodent control stories many times.

While I never saw one at a resort, last summer we saw a couple in Epcot over by the Nemo ride. We were staying at the BC and were meeting a very good friend of ours who is also a CM. The park had just opened & we were one of the first to arrive at the ride entrance as we had come through the back by Int'l gateway. While waiting for her, 2 cats popped out from the garden area, we were surprised to see them. We started speaking to the ride CM about that cats thinking they were perhaps strays and the CM told us they weren't. He said they were "residents" and are there to control the rodent population and even joked how we'd never see Mickey in that area...lol.
