I can only speak for Dolphanaris in Cozumel. We did this with our DD 8 in June 2012. It was great. It was clean, close to the port and the folks that run it were very nice and accommodating. We did the swim where the kids are on a platform and not actually swimming with the dolphins. It was our first experience and next time, we'll get in and swim. Be prepared, 5x7 pics are $28 EACH. As long as you know this going in, you will be fine!

LOVE Dolphinaris! Ask me any questions...I'll be happy to answer!
I have swam with dolphins in the Bahamas, the Florida Keys, and at Dolphinaris. I thought the Dolphinaris excursion was the best one I've done, and my daughters LOVED it as well. The interaction at Dolphinaris is excellent, and the facility is very clean and well maintained. I also did note some things like the gates to allow the dolphins out into the ocean in inclement weather.
Hope this helps!

PS...we were told by the Dolphinaris people that our waterproof digital camera was not allowed, but when I complained to the DCL excursion desk, they said that all of their excursion contracts say that their guests may have their camera at their own risk. So, if you want to bring your camera, verify this with DCL and then be prepared to stand up for yourself at Dolphinaris. We did wind up buying the CD of photos, as we had a group of 8 and wound up with multiple photos of each of us on it. But, I would have like some photos taken from my perspective in the water as well.

for those of you who have gone to Dolphinarus, did you book on your own or through Disney?

I'm interested in this as well. I went to a dolphin excursion once thru NCL. And the pens where the dolphins were enclosed were so tiny. So I promised my next dolphin encounter would be more researched. My 3 children have all expresses interest in swimming with the dolphins.

My youngest was 7 when we went there. Everyone wears a lifejacket, so swimming isn't an issue.
We booked directly through DCL, I prefer to do our excursions that way.
Ask me anything! I loved Dolphinaris!

I've been researching dolphin excursions and am going between Dolphinarus and the Dolphin Encounter and Turtle Farm on Grand Cayman. With the Dolphinarus excursion for kids, are parents allowed in the water? My kids will be a young 7 and 9 at the time of our trip. They are mostly interested in the dolphin interaction (touching, hug, kiss) and are still too scared to swim with them (at least that is what they are saying today). I'd personally feel more comfortable if my husband and/or I were in the water with them (or at least close by and not at an separated observation area). I'm ok with my husband and I not interacting with the dolphins if we did the kids excursion. It doesn't look like Dolphinarus has a middle ground excursion (by middle ground, I mean kids and adult dolphin interaction without the swimming part). A second option would be to do the Dolphinarus encounter and swim (all four of us as a family - which would be my preferred choice since my kids have never done anything like this before nor have my husband and I) and just let the kids skip the "swim" if they still didn't want to do it. Any thoughts? Have other families approached it this way?

The Dolphin Encounter and Turtle Farm has a program that fits our needs (encounter/no swim for kids and adults) but I'm just worried about the timing and this being a tendering port. Plus, Dolphinarus looks like a more impressive facility and is close to the ship.

Thanks for taking the time to read and reply!

We just got back from Cozumel and did Dolphin Discovery at Chakanaab Park. We really enjoyed it. My children are 8 and 9 and both about 55" tall. The water was pretty deep. Initially my 8 year old would not get in. He missed kissing the dolphin but did the push and pull. They will not let observers take photos from close by. My mom treated us to the CD which was $139 for 3 people. Totally ridiculous but I really wanted pictures and they are decent pictures. I've heard it is somewhat negotiable. After swimming with the dolphins, we got to get in with a manatee. Or rather I should say I did. Neither child wanted anything to do with the manatee and my 8 year old son told me he wasn't getting in with a mammal that could weigh up to 2,000 pounds: ) Smart kid! The facility was fairly nice. They also have a sea lion show and a good-sized pool.
