I am eager to hear about your Magic taco incident. I am assuming you liked the tacos, according to the hints you dropped at the start of the report.

Speaking of Palo, I would love to book that for dinner - I just hope my kids love the clubs as much as most of the other kids do that I have heard about. That would make for a nice belated birthday adult dinner. Boom chicka wow wow.
If your budget can bear it, take the cruise! It's a great, great, great trip. Just maybe don't eat the tacos.

I wish there was a way to refer to the adult activities on the ship without feeling like I'm talking about "adult activities".

Ok the machine in the bathroom totally cracks me up because I had the same thing happen at an airport (cant remember which one), next time we flew out of that airport I figured the machine was always like that too! And I'm anxiously awaiting the taco story, however I'm kind of glad too because I am eating tacos right now lol!

Perhaps because there weren't that many kids on our cruise, but we were never pressured to leave the club when collecting our son. Often he would be in the middle of a computer game, or group activity and I just stood to the side and watched/waited. So it was easy to see what the game was. It was only a minute or two, so not like I was in the club for long periods of time during secure sessions.

"Score!" I yelled and quickly shoved a bunch of the loose tampons into my camera bag. You ladies know how it is. You don't pass up free tampons and I thought I had hit the mother lode of malfunctioning tampon dispensers. It wasn't until a few days later that I realized all the machines are like this all the time and that my big score was less of a big score and more like me being a crazy tampon hoarder. So there's a word to the wise.

After the show we went to Studio Sea to play Who Wants to Be a Mousketeer? When you go in everyone gets a number and if your number is called you get to go up and play. And what do you know? J was the first one called! If a kid got called they get to bring an adult up to so I went. I should have instructed Jesse to take a picture because he didn't take a single one and I'm bummed about that.

The game is played just like Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? with questions with four answers and lifelines and all that jazz. I was up there to "help" J but he's such a Disney expert that he didn't need me at all. In fact, he won! He got a trading pin and a cute Disney Cruise trophy. That was pretty fun.

Also, The Very Bad thing with the taco is revealed.

I also think the tampon thing is funny. I never noticed any on the Wonder. At the hospital I work at, the machines are free, but they seem to rarely have any in them. So I am sure either people are taking lots and emptying them, or they just never restock.

I also got my number called for Mouseketeer. It was near the end of our trip, and they let my DH come up with me. Thankfully my questions were fairly easy, but the CM was giving all sorts of hints, so it made it even easier. Love the little trophy they give out.

No tacos on the Wonder, so waiting anxiously for your taco story...

I love the trophy too. We had a lot of fun trying to win different things but that was out favorite.

A birthday cruise will be great fun! I booked right through Disney after I saw on a Disney new website that they were offering a kids sail free promotion. You won't be able to find anything cheaper than what Disney offers directly since they don't allow travel agents to offer discounts on their cruises. If you book with a travel agent they might be able to give you an onbaord credit but I don't know much about that since I prefer to do the booking myself.

The Very Bad Thing

Castaway Cay day! Hooray! The fact that the forecast called for temps in the mid 60s wasn't enough to squelch our excitement about Castaway Cay. After all, we're from Minnesota. If the water wasn't frozen then it was warm enough for us to swim in. We should have picked up on the fact that something was wrong when we left our room that morning and noticed the boat still seemed to be moving. It seemed like we maybe should have been docked by that time but we weren't paying real close attention to the time so we just thought maybe we were a bit ahead of schedule and we would be up on deck in time to see the ship pull in.

Sure enough when we got to Topsiders we could see Castaway Cay a little ways off. As we ate our breakfast we watched as the ship moved back and forth and back and forth. I told the kids they must be maneuvering to get ready to pull up to the dock. We ate quickly and went out on deck to watch. Just as we got in position there was an announcement over the speaker system. Because of high winds and strong currents they were unable to dock. The back and forth movements the boat had been doing earlier were cause my the water pushing the boat out of docking position. A big groan went up from the crowd. The captain told everyone he would try again in a couple of hours and in the meantime new Navigators would be passed out and new activities would be added.

They printed those Navigators crazy fast because we got one as we were walking back to our room to drop our stuff beach stuff off. Jesse and J decided to spend a little time together (I think the Edge was having an open house at the time) and I decided to spend a little time with E in the Club during their open house.

She liked showing off all the games she was so good at by now.

We had the place to ourselves.

After a while in the clubs we all decided to meet up for some family trivia in Diversions.

Beat Street

Oh Castaway Cay. We want to go to there.

More Beat Street

And a bathroom. Of course.

See those empty boxes by the trash can? That's the messiest we ever saw a bathroom during the whole cruise. They really do keep them neat and clean. Someone was probably restocking the tampon machine.

We lost at trivia. Not shocking. I'm a little confused on what we did next because I have misplaced the extra Navigator we were given for this day. I think we went and did a craft in the Promenade Lounge. I got to chatting with a crew member who told me that if we were able to dock at Castaway Cay they probably wouldn't be serving lunch on the island. Since we were all a little hungry we decided to head up to deck nine to get a little something to eat while we waited for them to try to dock the ship again.

I decided to get a taco.

Now before I go any further I want to say that I have no complaints at all regarding any of the food service on the ship. The people making and serving the food were always friendly. I felt the like facilities were clean and well maintained. This was just pure bad luck.

We all got our food and we started to eat. I'm enjoying my taco because it was delicious. All of the sudden I notice that there is a hair sticking out of my taco. A hair that is not mine. I pause in my chewing and consider what to do next. I decide "Ok, no huge deal. I just won't eat this taco." and I begin to chew again. Only there's something wrong. There is another hair in the bite of taco in my mouth and it's starting to go down my throat as I swallow. I managed to pull it out and inspect it and it was for sure not my hair. My appetite was gone and I didn't eat another taco for the entire cruise.

Once I had untangled the hair from my tonsils we made our way up to deck ten to watch them try to dock again.

So beautiful. So blue. So free of hair tacos.

I see you there, you beautiful island you.

I can see where I want to sit!

It's right there waiting for us.

And then, the saddest of all the things. Another announcement came on that they were unable to dock because of the currents. I stood there with my teeth all freshly flossed with someone else's hair and watched the island slip away.

I was as blue as the water.

The good news is that they had new Navigators to pass out almost instantly. They added an afternoon showing of Villains Tonight and an extra session of Bingo. I know it was a pretty big disappointment for everyone but most people handled it pretty well. Most people. I saw someone pitching a fit at guest services and our table mates told us about a woman who had called her daughter and demanded she call the attorney general. I think the vast majority of the people on board knew they did their best to get us on the island and when they couldn't they did their best to make up for it.

As we sailed away from the island my husband shrugged and said "I guess we'll have to book another cruise and try again." You could have knocked me over with a feather since I had to twist his arm to get him on the cruise in the first place. In spite of the currents and the hair taco we were still all having an awesome time. The kids didn't even really care that we never made it to Castaway Cay. They just knew they were having a great time on the ship and that we had another day of fun on the ship to enjoy.

Next up: The rest of our unscheduled sea day and I eat something even grosser than a hair taco (on purpose!).

I am not deterred from trying the tacos! Where did you get them? At the buffet or the little outdoor places? I haven't been on the Magic, only the Wonder, and don't recall ever seeing tacos.

I think it was Pluto's Doghouse (or whatever it's called) where you can get hot dogs and what not. They were good tacos and I enjoyed them until I didn't any more.

The only pool day

In spite of the fact that we had to scrap Castaway Cay the weather wasn't too bad this day. In fact I think it was the warmest day we had on the whole cruise. E wanted to take advantage of the day and try out the pools. I took her to get her swimsuit on while Jesse took J to the Edge. (Jesse also stopped at Quiet Cove to get me a couple of pastries to snack on.)

The Mickey pool was not very crowded at all. (I know it's hard to tell with me blurring the picture so much.) The Goofy pool was a little more crowded but when E got a good look at it she decided to stick with the less busy Mickey pool.

I sat on the pool edge to keep an eye on E and without even thinking about it started eating the snacks Jesse had brought back for me. I felt a little dumb when a crew member came by and very politely asked me to move away from the pool when I was eating. Whoops! Even with the best of intentions you can break the rules. The trick is to follow the rules once you know what they are. In my case I just crammed the rest of my food in my mouth. I am so many types of classy.

After splashing around in the pool for a bit E decided to try out the water slide. It's a pretty tame slide but there is a satisfyingly large splash at the end so that made E happy enough to want to do the slide over and over and over and over.

Luckily the line for the slide was never more than a couple of kids long. It was pretty windy and when you got out of the pool the wind chilled you a little bit so I think that kept the line down a lot.

After a nice long swim it was time to go back to the room and get ready for that night's show. The show for this night was Villains Tonight.

This show earned a pretty solid "meh" from Jesse and I but the kids both liked it. I thought there were a couple of funny jokes and some of the musical numbers were well done but overall the whole thing just seemed a little flat. I would probably skip this one if it was showing on our next cruise.

After the show we had planned to play (or at least watch) Mickey Mania but on a whim we decided to give Bingo a try. We bought a $80 package that included regular paper cards for the Jesse and I to use and the electronic cards for the kids to use. During the Bingo session servers came around with free apple juice for the kids and free drinks for the adults. Some adults really really took advantage for the free drinks. A few people actually jumped up and grabbed them from the servers when they came out with the trays so if you were sitting at a table waiting to be served you kind of had to wait a while. Jesse and I were still able to get a couple of drinks each so it's all good.

Bingo was ... interesting. The crew was lively and it seemed like they had a lot of running jokes with the Bingo regulars. They did drawings for extra prizes in between the Bingo sessions and that was nice. The funny thing was that one family won two of the Bingos AND two of the between session drawings. By the time they were collecting their third prize there was a noticeable chill in the air towards them. I don't think people who play a lot of Bingo like it when one group wins everything. We didn't win anything so we didn't really care either way. I think it was worth trying out to see what it was all about but we decided it wasn't really our thing. Maybe we would feel differently if we had won anything.

Next up was dinner and this was our first night at Lumiere's. I had:
Gaston's" Escargots Gratinés - I've never tried escargots before and it seemed like this was as good a time as any.

How can I describe it? Slimy mostly. Everyone at our table tried one (except for J) and everyone at our table (except for E who loved them) decided once was enough. The more you chewed them the chewier they got and that wasn't all together a pleasant sensation. I don't imagine I would ever order this again.
Applewood Smoked Bacon and Wild Mushroom Tart - This was decent and did not leave a slimy sensation in my mouth.
"Mrs. Potts" French Onion Soup - Yummy. I wish I had some of this in front of me right now.
Three-Cheese Lobster Macaroni - This was my biggest disappointment in the MDRs. This should have been delicious but it really wasn't. It was dry and gummy. The sauce tasted like it had been thickened with flour and then not cooked enough to get the raw taste out. I should have asked for something different. (I know I could have but I didn't want to wait for something else to be brought out to me.)
Lumiere's Sweet Temptations
A Trio of Crème Brûlée, Chocolate Mousse and Praline Petite Choux - These were all good. I even liked the creme brulee even though I'm not usually a fan. I liked the dessert trios because it was a chance to try a little of several different things.

We decided to head to bed early since the next day was our day at Disney World and we were scheduled to be on the earliest bus out.

We fell asleep the same way we did most nights on the ship - being serenaded by the sweet sounds of Mickey Mouse cartoons and letting the ship gently rock us off to sleep.

Next time: Be Our Guest (after waiting in line forever).

Ooh I missed an update!

The "I am so many types of classy" line was the best! Love it. The joys of motherhood!

Ok so Escargot is our favorite food to talk about - the idea of it just grosses everyone out. I keep telling them that I'm going to order some so we can all try just because we can and everytime there is a trip report with a picture I call them over to look and tell them again that they should definately try them sometime. BUT everybody's pics are mainly just of the serving dish - you actually lifted one out and took a picture! That is awesome - except that know everyone is even more convinced that they're not trying them!
