Going next year for spring break?

I totally forgot that the high school band goes to Disney / Universal / Coco Beach during spring break until my 8th grader trumpet playing DS got a post card from a current band member. I know you are think great what's the problem. Well there really isn't one. I just know that DD who is high functioning Autistic won't take it very well that her brother is going to Disney and she is not. So i have decided that I will take her and am going to start using my Disney visa so it I can use the points. I know hubby thinks she will deal with not going but I don't. I guess I'm a little excited to start planning a vacation again.

Any chance you can take her at a different time than spring break? From what others have posted, it's a nightmare for almost every one and especially those with stimulation issues. The MK was so crowded it was closed some of the time. Pictures of wall-to-wall crowds. Maybe if you said "brother is going in April, and we are going March 1 (or something)" would that help?

I think the idea of a separate trip with DD is great - it will give her a special 1:1 trip with you, at a lower-crowd time which she is more likely to handle better. Secondary to that, it will also help teach her that she doesn't always get to do what brother does, and vice versa. And brother can learn not to antagonize his sister by constantly talking about a trip that's for him only (not saying he would do that, but siblings sometimes push each others buttons). You could plan something special locally with DD while DS is on his band trip.

I was there for start of spring break crowds Mar 10 to the 17th. Holy Cow were the MK crowds nuts! CM's were directing traffic so people could keep moving thru FL. One lady was in such an angry mood she had a scowl on her face, put her elbows and out and pushed thru the crowd knocking the woman in front of me over into the scooter I was driving. Thankfully we were moving super!!! slow or she would have been really injured. With fast passes we got on 5 rides the whole day. Other parks weren't as bad, but they weren't pretty either.

If you could pull her from school and go earlier than spring break I think she'd be much happier. I don't have a dx for it, but I do get sensory overload and claustrophic from time to time. It hit me there and I've never had it in WDW before. I wil NEVER go during spring break again.

We were there Mar 13-17 and did not find it to be horrible. Crowded yes, but horrible no. We were a group of 4 adults, a toddler and a baby so we had 2 strollers and a powered wheelchair. We did split up frequently so the parents could ride rides that the little ones could not and the grandparents (usually granddad) would watch them. Seemed to work out well.

That totally depends on the child. My 2 youngest that are autistic thrive at DW and we always go the week before Easter. They don't seem to mind the crowds at all. Our 5 yr old actually started talking last year on IASW.
