5day Wonder or 7day Fantasy Jan 2014

Ok - I need advice, even though I feel like I've made my mind up already!

We are considering a cruise in January 2014 when my son is home from on college break. Originally, due to costs, we thought maybe a 5day on the Disney Wonder, but then we saw pics of the Fantasy!!! WHAAAAAAAAAT??? AND, the Wonder doesn't stop at CC.

Those cruising would be our family of 4. (18 and 8 y/o plus hubby and me) Also would be my in-laws and my mom and dad. Mother in law has a slight mobility issue and may need a wheelchair - can we get that on the ship?

I've never cruised before and I'm scared! I get motion sickness very easily and get mixed reviews on cruising with regard to that. I'm told I'll feel it less on the bigger boat, but I'm not convinced either way! HELP!!!!

If you get motionsick, stay to midship and stay low (or at least thats what I have always been told!). We booked a 5 night on the Wonder, but airfare looks to be a bit more than PC so I am actually feeling a teensy bit regretful myself. But they aren't doing the western the week we wanted anyway, so I am sticking to that and saving $$$ (even considering the airfare!)

We are all leaning Fantasy . . . and I was thinking mid ship middle. I think I'll be ok, but time will tell. One of the reasons we thought maybe 5 days . . . If I do get sick, at least it's a shorter trip!

Since this is your first cruise. CC trumps all.

Take the 7day and enjoy the newer ship.

Each ship has its own great things. You would not be disappointed with either. For motion sickness I take a perscription because I don't chance it. But, you can take the over the counter stuff and probably be fine. I recommend taking one at lunch the first day and take as recommended. After you get out to sea, you can adjust or stop taking the meds. I take the meds the whole time, they don't affect me negatively in any way.

Enjoy the cruise!

I would choose the 7 night. This is coming form someone who can't ride extreme rides or read in the car or even sit in the back seat sometimes or I get really sick. I've found that if I take Bonine (sold ever the counter at Walmart) the night before our cruise it really helps me.

I don't even need to take bonine the entire trip but I always have it handy & would take it if I were too worried. In October 2012 we left on the Fantasy just after the ship came into port Canaveral through hurricane Sandy. So the seas were rough for the first day or so. I did take the bonine & the only time the motion started to bother me a little bit was while we were walking the creaking, swaying, narrow hallways delivering the FE gifts to people. Other than that I was fine.

I refuse to allow my motion sickness to determine what I can & can't enjoy in my life.

You can check out our trip report for our 7 night, western Caribbean, fantasy cruise here:

For the first cruise I would do the 7 day because it will have everything and then you can dial back on your next cruise. CC is one of the most enjoyable and relaxing stops, in my opinion.

This advice is from one of the teenage girls we took that gets motion sickness and this is what we found to work.
If you get motion sickness try to find a room in the middle to back of the ship. Stay away from the front staterooms. If you are not feeling good the first day do not worry because it should go away after the first day or so. Also do not go to your room if you are feeling bad. Spend the time out in the ship and on the open decks. The pool area was good because it is wide open and lots of activity.

Such great advice - thank you all so much. I'm pretty sure I'll be okay, but I'll certainly carry a medicine chest just in case! I think we're sold on CC and the Fantasy - at least I am. From what I've heard - Disney is THE BEST cruise line there is - so I think we're safe!

Thanks again!

Something a little different to consider. We are doing a B2B in January on the Wonder for about the same price as a 7 day on the Fantasy. You can do a 5 day Caribbean with a 4 night Bahamas, thereby getting a 9 night cruise with all different ports (including CC).

There will be some duplication of menus and shows but we see that as an oppertunity to relax a bit more, not worrying about missing anything in the main dining rooms if you choose to go to Palo or if want to spend an evening at the pool instead of going to the show.

If you can, I would go for a 7 night. To me, the 5 night just seemed to go by real quick. There is so much to do and see, that the extra nights are well worth it. I can't imangine doing a 3 or 4 night cruise, that would really fly by. I'm glad the next one I'm on is a 14 night. But whatever you choose, you can't go wrong. Your going to have a great time. Disney doesn't disappoint.
