You can get mini-envelopes here:

http://www.envelopes.com/invitation/...-red-envelopes

There are a lot of colors available.

Walmart sells cute Disney Stickers:

http://www.walmart.com/ip/4-Disney-S...hoice/15611255

For about $20 you can make 50 or so envelopes.

If you've never checked out the 'Creative DISigns' forum at the bottom of the list, you'll find some great stuff there. The disigners create tons of stuff for free.

One of them created this website with free printables. Here is the mousekeeping envelopes page:

The suggestions above are great, but we always make our own. It's a fun project for the kids!!

I have never left the tip in an envelope in any hotel. Is this standard practice at all hotels, or just Disney? I'm assuming it's to make sure they know its for mousekeeping and not just cash we have lying around. Is it necessary if we are DVC members and therefore will only have the room cleaned upon checkout (staying 6 nights)?

It is not common, even in Disney. People just do it for fun and/or to organize things before they go.

Exactly. We are frequent visitors and never usually leave it in an envelope. Since we go so often I am trying to think of new things for the kids to get involved in.

It's pretty much unique to Disney, and even then it's not that common. I made them for one trip (thanks to the Creative DISigns board for some great ideas), just because I had some extra time on my hands. Usually I just put the cash on the bathroom shelf with a note that says Thanks.

After years of traveling internationally - the practice is more wide-spread in Europe, less so in Asia (where every room comes with a 10% "service charge" on the bill), really hit-or-miss in the US.

For the exceptional service I've received from some of the CM Mousekeepers - almost always a smile and hello in the hall, great attention to detail in the rooms (I've heard of bad mousekeeping, dirty rooms etc., never experienced it and I've been staying at Disney resorts since 1981) including some fairly ornate towel/washcloth "sculpture" I tip $3-5 each day.

I've taken to putting the tip right in the mousekeeper's hand. A few years back I made a trip back to my room after we had left for the park. I noticed that there was a stack of new towels at the foot of the bed but the room hadn't been cleaned yet. Also, I noticed the tip was gone.

So I sat down and waited for the maid. When she arrived I asked if she had been in the room earlier; she hadn't. But they had a girl who just ran out the linens for each room. Then I asked if she had got any of the tip envelopes that week (it was day 4 of our vacation). She hadn't.

This mousekeeper had been doing such an awsome job, never knowing that her coworker was robbing her.

I found a hamilton in my pocket and put it in her hand. I asked if she would like me to talk to management and she declined. I assume she alerted the other maids to the situation and they cornered the thief in the laundry room.

From that point on, green paper goes straight into the maid's hand.

I do the same. I take different Disney Character pics and write something different on each envelope(using Print Shop)...This trip I'll have my DGD help me. Just another thing to keep the excitement building !

That's how I did it last trip and will continue to do so in the future - if you really liked the service then take the time to personally say "thank you" AND back it up with 'green paper'

When they start doing a better job I may tip. They are awful lately. I stay yc and was appalled how dirty the room was called and switched rooms next room still dirty. Hire people that clean better
