Sea World VIP pass for New Years

My husband and I are going to Discovery Cove on the 31st December and were planning to do Sea World on either the 30th December or the 1st January.

Since we get our Sea World entry free thanks to Discovery Cove, I was considering getting the VIP tour at Sea World. Has anyone done it? Is it worth it? And will it be a good idea since it will help us get around some of the crowds?

Hi Jaydee'

Well, we are back from our trip now. My husband and I took our granddaughter to Sea World on the 6th, before we checked into Disney World. Anyway, as far as buying the VIP passes go, I would seriously tell you to save that money and put it towards something else special for your trip. In our opinion, we felt the tour wasn't worth it. Everything we did on the tour could be done on our own. There were some benefits, such as being escorted to a special section of seats reserved for us, and the tour guide getting us a free water to drink during the shows , and also not having to wait in a line to feed the dolphins, but other then that, we just didn't think the extra cost was worth it for us. First , we bought the all day dining plan, and were not aware that the all day dining plan was free witht he VIP pass....that was not too big a deal, as they were willing to refund us our money.

Our tour guide was nice enough, but she was young, and latched onto a younger couple, and would talk to them mostly, as they sprinted across the park going 90 miles an hour as those of us with strollers tried to keep up with them. Then we found ourselves walking all over the park needlessly back and forth across , as when the tour guide found extra time in between attractions, she would take those who wanted to rides the rides on...they didn't have to wait in line, which was good for them, but those who didn't want to ride the rides(those with small children with them, such as us and another 2 families in our group) they had to wait for the rideers to get off. Waiting wasn't bad...but all the walking across the park, back and forth, was just too much, especially at the pace she was going.

What bothered me most was that as we were walkign, I would see cute photo opportunities I would have liked to take advantage of withmy granddaughter, but we were in a group and going from one attraction or show to another, and stopping to take pictures would not have been wise, as we would have lost our group. So we were just really only seeing what was part of the tour and not much else. Granted if we could have stayed until closing, we wold have had the chance to tour more on our own, but we only had an hour or so after the tour ended before we had to leave, to meet up with our daughters who had spent the day at Universal Studios. Not that that was Sea Worlds fault, but I felt that we just missed so much by being on that tour. My husband agreed too. We both thought we would have enjoyed our day there a whole lot more if we had just gone on our own without the tour. Feeding the dolphins and stingrays can be done by every one at the park, with just a little waiting time...which we would have gladly traded for the time to be on our own and go at our own pace. So, in my opinion about the VIP passes..they really aren't worth it.

Thanks so much for that. That pretty much confirms what I had vaguely wondered - if being on the tour would mean I'd see the same stuff but on someone else's schedule instead of my own.

Sorry it wasn't great for you though, it's always annoying to spend that kind of money and have it not end up being what you hoped it'd be. You have saved us some money (as if that's any consolation whatsoever ) because I think we'll skip it. I want to see the park at my own pace even if that means braving some crowds.

Thanks again!

Sorry to hear you didn't have a great VIP tour. I've never done the tour but I know my days at Sea World tend to include criss crossing around the park. It seems to be the nature of the park. Your entire day revolves around the showtimes, especially Shamu since it seems to be shown less often. Every time I've went, they've seemed to schedule a couple of "comando" show cycles. For example, Looking at today

10:00 Blue Horizons
11:00 Clyde and Seamore
12:00 One Ocean (one of only 2 performances).
Lunch Break
1:45 Pet's Ahoy
3:30 A'Lure

Then the park's open today until 7:00. You haven't added in any rides or animal interactions but you've hit all the shows in 6 1/2 hours. The VIP tour is advertised as 6 hours. 3 shows, 2 animal interactions and ride time. It's going to be busy. That being said, the should probably offer a couple of different variations on the VIP tours, Like Balanced, Show heavy, and Ride Heavy.

It's interesting, pricing things out, All Day Dining is about $33.00, Unlimited Express pass is $14.00, and Signature Show Seating (4 shows) is $30.00. Buying the features without the person is $77.00 + the cost of feeding Dolphins, Stingrays and Sealions (figure $17 there). That brings it up to $94. So from a purely cost perspective having the person lead you around is almost the same cost, assuming you want all the features.
