Airport gas price relief coming soon

Any one that'd flying into and out of OIA in the very near future will see some gas price relief. Wawa is opening a store on Lee Vista and 436 and will keep its lower prices for gas. Prices are expected to be about 2.00 a gal cheaper then the 2 nearest stores that charge over 5.00 a gallon.

Did not know what OIA was until I looked it up. The official designation for Orlando Internatioal Airport is MCO.

Sorry. Habit. When ever the airport is mentioned on the news here it's referred to as OIA or some derivative of OIA

$5.00 is expensive??? I really don't understand how gas is so cheap? Those oil drilling rigs cost billions of dollars to build.

I agree. I'm trying to figure out how those 2 stations slip by the price gouging rules.

Last time I read articles about it, it said that they just have to have signage. They did put up signs. You still can't really see them, but they are there.

Before, I read that they just paid the fines, because the fines were less than lowering their prices.

But there's that one off of the beeline (beachline?) that has decent prices already.

Welcome to WAWA They love to start a gas price war when they enter a new market. That'll get nice long lines at the pumps and then people inside to see what else there is to buy. That is what they did when they first added gas to existing stores in PA in the 90s and as they go south the only do stores with gas. Maybe I'll get lucky in 2014 and have 1 open near the port.

There's currently 6 Wawa's in the Orlando area. They have plans for nearly 100 in the Orlando/Tampa area in the next couple of years.

The one at SR-436 and Lee Vista Blvd is listed as opening 'Summer 2013'. For those headed to MCO, there's one at Central Florida Parkway and International Drive (SeaWorld) and another at SR-15 (Hoffner Ave) and Goldenrod Road (a couple of miles miles north of the airport).

Gas prices are not regulated. Gas stations can charge whatever they want. The gauging laws are set to prevent the quick fluctuation in changes. Typically, they are allowed to make one change in price every 24 hours. Other rules are related to the proper visible display of prices or to mention if they are based on method of payment (ie cash). Also, prevent selling regular gas as premium or to shut down the pumps if the tanks are not empty.

So why do they charge $5? Same reason as to why a dog licks itself...

There's one going into Winter Haven at 3rd street and avenue o sw in the old Lincoln/Mercury dealer property. For those that don't know where Winter Haven is its the city Legoland resides in. About 45 minutes from Disney.

I wouldn't be surprised if they put one in or near the port.

And then you go to the airport and pay $2.50 for a 20 oz. Diet Coke. It sucks. It's life.
