I decided upon the Panasonic Lumix TS3 (or maybe the 4) It's the 2012 model, the 2013 has just been released or will be out soon.

Got it at costco for 200 (they had a $50 instant rebate at the time) A

After reading the reviews, it's one of the top tough cameras, and it was significantly less expensive the the olympus toughy. Still not cheep, but i think it will work pretty well.

I have the TS4 and love it! It has a fast lens for when you want to take pictures in burst mode. It takes great pictures both under and above water.

Thanks to all of the wonderful advice, I was able to pick up a Nikon Coolpix S30 at Walmart for $59 on clearance. Thanks for the tips. I was so excited to see that it would shoot video too!

Another vote for the Nikon s30. Picked the white one back in feb at best buy but had them price match amazon who had it for $65. I also had a couple of gift cards (from their electronics recycle promo) and rewards. Ended up paying under $15.

I tried the Digipac but did not like it. Camera was hard to use with it. And when I tried the paper test, kept on bubbling while I held it underwater. Did not want to risk it.

Olympus Tough?!

I've seen lots of posts in favor of the Olympus Tough...but when I went to Amazon I saw I whole bunch of models...some as low as mid-100's..others up in the $400. Can you be more specific on your experiences? THANKS

I got a Fuji Finepix xp150. It was around $140 on Amazon. It works great, and I have no complaints!

Here are some of my pics from Castaway Cay:

Thanks for the helpful suggestions in this thread

I took the Samsung W300 with me on my last cruise, and I was very disappointed with the quality of both the picture and the video.

No matter what the conditions, the color was off and just not worth the $$.

I just recently got a Nikon AW100 as well and have been impressed with it so far. My kids have taken it with them to the pool for just under an hour (it's waterproof to 10 ft for up to 60 minutes) and I was very happy with both the video and photo results. My only disappointment with it is the digital compass doesn't seem accurate at all. It could've been a user error though as I was only tinkering around with it and hadn't read that part of the manual yet. Unfortunately, our trip is over a year away so I have no idea how well it'll hold up underwater then. I did read in the manual that they recommend changing the waterproofing housing and parts once a year, but let's face it, how many people actually read the fine print of manuals, let alone actually obey the recommendations to the "t"? To those of you who have had your waterproof cameras for over a year, does your manual recommend similar maintenance on it? Do you/have you ever done it?

I looked for the AW100 at Costco when price shopping and couldn't find it. I ended up getting it at Walmart for $240 with case and 8gb card. I sprung the extra 10 bucks for a floating wrist strap.
