Breast Cancer Metastisize 16yrs after diagnosis

I am writing this for my sister. My sister was diagnosed 16 yrs ago w/breast cancer at the age of 32. She had a mastectomy and went through preventive chemo with the initial diagnosis.

Last summer it metastasized to her lungs. They are very positive about her prognosis. Evidently, the treatment is different when the cancer metastasizes at the initial diagnosis vs many years later. I think it would make her feel better if I could find someone in a similar situation. Thoughts and prayers for everyone suffering an illness.

I am sorry about your sister...but to give her some hope let me share two people in my life that have had similar diagnosis.

1. A friend of mine had stage 4 breast cancer and was diagnosed at 28 years old. Had a mastectomy and went into remission. 5 years later it had metastized to her brain. Dr.s told her she would live maybe 3 months. She survived for 2.5 more years after that prognosis. In the end, she end up dying not from the cancer, but from staph infection in the hospital after brain surgery.

2. My grandmother was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer at the age of 35. Also had mastectomy, been in and out of remission for many years.she has stage 4 cancer now and it has spread to her spine, bones, and even her skin. She is 80 years old today and was told many times she should be gone by now. She is still as stubborn as ever, going through a strong chemo regiment, but still doing well. Cancer survivor for 45 years! That is some inspiration!

Your whole family will be in my thoughts and prayers
