I spoke to my guide this afternoon, as I felt I was in limbo as to how long my wait would be, and my "place" in line. My guide said that I was 14th in line for OKW, not considering UY. My guide said that it should be soon...whatever that means.

Same here. I've been on a waitlist for Oct UY BCV 100 points since mid Feb. It's looking like a longish wait.....

Why not ROFR everything

I have a theory about why Disney doesn't ROFR everything. Basically, all of you who are waitlisted already own DVC points. Which means, you're coming to WDW and spending money anyway. A number of resale buyers (like me) are new buyers, which means we're fresh faces and it's a good way to lasso our money, and maybe we add on direct in the future. Sharon at Fidelity basically told me the same thing. Yes, they will try to fill WL orders with a certain number of ROFR's, but they probably won't ROFR everything for the aforementioned reasons. Hoping my little BWV contract is safe.

As to ROFR, even a company as large as Disney does not have unlimited cash flow to buy up resales. As to coming to WDW and spending money, DVC does not get any of that money. All their money is made by direct sales.

Well, I, for now one, am a new buyer and I chose to go direct. I cannot understand why Disney does not ROFR for those UY which have the longest wait lists.

That's what my guide told me too. I know others guides have said they just automatically charge you. I guess I'll find out if my wait list ever comes through.

that is why i said something does not sound right. say a BCV is going for 75 points on resale and they are charging me 110 or so on wait list prices. any one would be making 35 dollar a point in pure profit every single second of the day. they should be handing out 25 to 50 point addons like crack to us.....

If Disney buys back a contract, can they 'repackage' it so that the number of points are different.

For example, I wait list for 150 points and someone else waitlists for 50 points, can Disney buy back a 200 point contract and break it into two? I've always wondered that.

Yes, I'm pretty sure they can -- they just can't change the use year of the points.

Disney is not going to buy back a property at 75.00PP and sell for 110.00PP way too low of a profit margin considering they can charge 165.00PP for BLT and make a whole lot more money! I am sure they have profit margins they stick by and it looks like most ROFR'd properties were pretty loaded and under 60.00PP for the most part. By Disney raising direct pricing they now will be able to buy some of those 60 -70 contracts back and make their margins!

We were on the waitlist for 25 points with an April use year for VWL for five weeks. The points just became available a couple days ago...we got the paperwork today and will send it all back tomorrow. We already banked the 2012 points and so will get the backdated 25 plus our 25 2013 points April 1.
Immediately after calling MS to bank the 2012 points today they were showing in our account on the dvc member site.

That's one less person on the waitlist in front of me! I'm on the waitlist for April VWL pts. My guide told me their were 4 people on the list ahead of me. I guess it's only 3 now! Congratulations on your new points.

Gosh...hope yours come through soon, too...my guide told me they will take bigger contracts and break them up to fulfill smaller waitlist requirements (so if you are next on the list and waiting for 25 points and a 150 point contract comes available in your requested use year, they will break it up and take your 25 out of it.

We're horselovers, too (have three!)

First of all you are clueless that is 46% profit margin on that example case in the parks division of Disney operate around a 18 to 20% gross margin and the company as a whole closer to 13% so making 46% is a no brainer. Second you are comparing 2 different resorts with 2 different price points. There is a reason for a wait list and it's not a perfect profit margin.
