Looking for 7 seater, 20 nights in August:
Hertz with 10% AA discount less 8% Quidco = £724
Alamo/Holiday Autos 15% link & 16% Quidco = £457

Not booking yet, hope for a discount code to bring it down to around £400.
Good luck with that Wayne; if anyone can do it, you can . I normally aim to pay no more than £400 for 14 nights! But I did make a few bookings with the Hertz sale . Great price on the August hotels btw .

No idea where we want to stay in August, Extended stay Deluxe LBV looks good value at £33/nt, look like little appartments, wifi, breakfast, all included but I prefer pool at Fairfield. Lots of time yet, I only booked Easter this weekend.

Wayne - you're in the travel biz yourself aren't you? Have Hertz not given you a Travel Industry CDP code to use when getting rates?

Nope, Florist Business, although I seem to spend more time with travel advice than selling flowers

I have used Hertz a couple of times in the past and been very happy with them- especially the Gold service - last summer our car had 12 miles on the clock!

Using that November sale, I managed to book us a 7 seater this July for £407 (less another £40 through Quidco). Expect to hear of you getting an even better deal!

We started using Hertz several years ago because they offered a guaranteed Ford Mustang (not the convertible version) at rate similar to an Intermediate.

For most, if not all, of our bookings we've managed to get a discount code of some kind. Also we've sometimes added a code, or a different code, to the reservation and had the cost further reduced - with the difference being credited to our credit card. Their fuel option is usually at a competitive price, in fact on our last trip it was the lowest price we saw. And we've never had them try to tack on all kinds of 'optional extras' as other rental companies do.

Gold Canopy is an excellent service. No queuing at rental counters, just walk to the board, look for your name and see where your car is parked, find it and drive away. We certainly miss it when we travel somewhere it isn't offered. In some locations they also offer Gold Choice, where they have an area with a selection of vehicles you can choose and drive away if you see something you prefer to the one allocated.

Unfortunately they have now stopped offering the guaranteed Mustang but we like the Gold Canopy service so much that we would pay (slightly) more to rent with them than another company.

Guaranteed Mustang is still available but the dates are now more limited as they've thinned the fleet out a bit - while Mustangs used to be mixed in with the standard convertibles, they've added a whole load of Mitsubishi Spyders to the fleet this year, which are slightly smaller than the 'stang or a Chrysler 200, so they've moved the Mustang to a higher class, and as a result the prices for guaranteeing one have shot up as well!

I just checked the price for a 4x4 for the dates were looking at and Hertz are crazy-expensive. I recon they'd need 40% off just to get competitive
