key lime pie, key west

We would like to taste a few different key lime pies in the brief time we are at that port. We plan to use hop on/hop off trolley as transportation.

Those that have done this in Key West recently, please let me know your favorites.

Thanks!

We tried Kermits when we were there last year and were not impressed. However, there are lots of places to choose from!

Try the Key Lime Pie Factory. They have amazing key lime pie! You can even try their key lime pie slice dipped in chocolate!

Our cruise next year is stopping in Key West. I have tried quite a few homemade and restaurant pies over the years (never in Key West) but I always go back to my old favorite. Edwards Key Lime Pie! It's available year round(at Walmart) and never disappoints me. I might be persuaded to get off the boat to try the chocolate dipped Key Lime Pie......but then again it seems like that would be an awkward flavor combo.

I agree it seemed like a weird combo to me too. I opted for the regular slice and let my friends try the chocolate lol They say it was delicious.

Yes the Chocolate Dipped Key Lime Pie sounds weird - But IT'S REALLY REALLY GOOD
We enjoyed Kermit's - there is a Trolley stop within 3 or 4 blocks of it. It's also just a short walk from the main "terminal" of the Hop on / off Trolley.

BTW - the trolley is the way to see the island. Great people working for them.

Which trolley company did you use?

We had key lime pie at Mattheessen's. I had the regular kind and it was good.

We used City View Trolley and thought it was a good way to see the island in a short time. You can get on and off at the scheduled stops as much as you want, but if you just stay on for the entire ride, it takes about an hour.

Old Town Trolley. Hop On/Off. We have used them in Washington DC as well and they were heads and shoulders above the other company we used one day. Trolley Drivers in both locations are friendly and courteous and informative.

We tipped the drivers on each of our "off's" because they had earned more than a little extra.

We also purchased our Truman / Hemmingway house tickets through them as a package and saved a little money. We purchased the Trolley tickets at the pier, and they pointed us to where we could catch the trolley and buy the add on package.

Don't do this through DCL. No Hop On/Off privileges on that tour.

You should also sample the various conch fritters. They don't call it the conch republic for nothing!
