My last employer had 13 bathrooms, all unisex. 13 scattered throughout the building with a toilet and sink in each. Woman hated having bathrooms that men were also using.

Then a bunch of people started commenting on it
I wondered if people really lived there and got to watch them every night

I've seen disabled stalls in restrooms (generally known by this term in England) that both families with small children and people in wheelchairs alike use and sometimes family restrooms with feeding/changing areas for babies in bigger shopping centres.

The shopping malls around here have them and several airports I've been in the last few years do as well.

The men should have hated it more. Women's restrooms are always nastier than men's

Oh I don't think that's always true. I used to work at a restaurant and we'd draw straws at the end of the night for who cleaned the bathrooms. You wouldn't believe the kinds of things I saw in the men's room.

Did you ever find 10 beer bottles set up like bowling pins covered in, um, number two? That one's still the tops from anyplace I've worked

My last job was at a hospital and the staff shared unisex bathrooms. It was disgusting! Most of the women in the business office, where I was, would use the lobby bathroom because it was a lot cleaner.

I can't tell you how many times I would use the staff bathroom only to stand up with the bottoms of my pants wet from where someone (I'm assuming a man) peed on the floor!

It got to where I'd have to lay paper towel down (and use a paper towel to put the seat down ) before I could even start my business.

One time I saw a surgeon come out of there right before I went in. There was pee (yellow!) all over the toilet seat and the toilet wasn't flushed. GROSS!

Yup, that's gross.

It must be a regional thing, because like I said, except for Target, I've never seen any here. Oh, the YMCA has a separate locker room for people who are helping an individual who cannot take care of themselves.
Our local YMCA has 5 different "categories" of locker rooms/ bathrooms/showers.
1. Adult only - men: only males over the age of 18 are allowed in this area
2. Adult only - female: only females over the age of 18 are allowed in this area
3. Youth: male: any male under the age of 18 taking care of their own needs, or an adult male who is accompanying a boy under a certain age (can't remember the age)
4. youth: female: same as above only with females
5. companion/ family rooms for anyone who did not fit one of the above categories - this would include any mother helping her son (of any age) or any father helping his daughter (of any age)

It was so nice to be able to take my daughter into the youth locker room to help her get ready for dance class and not have to worry about someone bringing their son in because they didn't think they could leave them alone. And, I know my friend really appreciated being able to help her 6 year old son get ready for his swim lessons without having to worry about upsetting others.

As far as in other areas: I've definitely seen companion restrooms in most places such as malls, Targets and other larger stores. The smaller stores just seem to have the women's and men's rooms; either with a couple stalls or individual.
