Ms. O'Brien not coming back to Downton Abbey

I read in two different magazines today that the character of Ms. O'Brien, she is not coming back to Downton Abbey next season. I can't stand her to tell you the truth but she is such a good trouble maker. Now that Thomas has kind of turned nice, who will make trouble and drama now?

Are you glad she is gone or do you wish she would stay?

Did the articles say why she wasn't coming back? I read that she likes playing someone so twisted, but my thought was that perhaps she was bored? We haven't seen her do anything besides be evil, although she is a bit nice to her nephew.

I read somewhere that Brendan Coyle (Bates) told Julian Fellowes that he had been in prison too long, and it was time to change things up. So, it seems he was bored with his character, too.

The show will seem strange without her, but I don't know that I'll be sorry to see her go.

It's not a spoiler. It's a casting news item, unofficially known for months and recently publicly confirmed.

I'm sorry, but when exactly did Thomas become nice? He's a dirtbag. I thought O'Brien was actually softening more than he was.

Do we know the circumstances for her character leaving? She's still around by the end of the Christmas episode, so I definitely want some explanation!

That's too bad, she definitely added some entertainment. I just can't believe they killed off Matthew...at least they finally got their heir! I think Edith should just throw caution to the wind and have an affair with her publicist, she deserves some happiness! I think having their niece live with them is going to add a breath of fresh air to the show.....as long as they don't kill her off too!!
