Looking forward to more! Oh - and what a great group of DISers to hang out with.
yeah! Mary Ellen is here!
Hm, so you were laughing about my poor brother's misfortune. Well, so was I! Before I got pretty mad, when I saw the "damage" she had done.
Lots more to come, soon!

P.s. well, the flight wasn't so smooth with that nut in front of Tom! I'm surprised a flight attendant did not come to help. On a flight to Lisbon during breakfast, the woman next to me knocked her red wine directly into my lap...I was wearing very light khaki Capris. The flight attendants were fantastic - two came over immediately with club soda and we managed to get the stain out...thank goodness the pants had dried before landing!
Glad you cleared the rolls/tolls confusion up. I was a bit confused.

Well, the flight was pretty smooth apart from the "nice" lady. I don't think the flight attendant hadn't even realized, it happened so fast.
Yikes, being "christened" with red wine! I would have been sooooooo mad!

Sound like you had Mr Sauvo at the Dollar counter like we did!
No, she didn't apologize. All she wanted was her head rest back - as if we would have kept it.
You know, I remember what you wrote about picking up your rental and made Tom read the contract carefully. Ticked the rep right off!
And I SO remembered your suitcase "incident" when I looked at the wrong bag.

Glad you are feeling better and I hope Tom is back to himself.

I love the picture of the map, saw some of the names of places I visited. Happy your flight was smooth and going through customs was a breeze. What a disruption that lady caused, some people are so inconsiderate and not even apoligize. I feel bad for Tom, no beer and wet pants. Glad Dollar was a lot better for you than it was for us. I guess this restored my faith in Dollar.
The crackers were a lot better than the bread bites and I am definitely going to get another one of those croissants in the summer.

I love to keep the "airshow" (=map thing) on the little TV. So nice when you fall asleep and when you wake up the plane has made a long leap!

I was prepared to line up twice thanks to reading your Dollar experience, but there was no issue. Cars were assigned right away and without a hitch. I really liked our car!

Sounds like an otherwise smooth flight and a quick exit through customs and getting the car.

Does your stop have anything to do with light and fluffy round things?
No, no apologize from her. She kind of ripped the head rest out of Tom's hand and fiddled with it until she had put it on again and that was it.

We were amazed at how easily we went through immigration. Being towards the front of the plane sure helps. When we were done with immigration I turned around and the whole room had filled up. Poor people having to be in that long line for an hour or two.

You win!!! It has to do with round, light and fluffy things.
Boy, you know me too well. I need to come up with something new.

Love the teaser pics how very fun! Do NOT love the flying full beer. Yuck.

I'm going with the light round fluffy thing stop idea too.

That copy and paste thing had me go up walls too. But now it works again and I am a happy bunny.

You know I wasn't happy with the flying beer can situation then and could not really let go, but it was sure fun writing about it.

And you are so right on the light fluffy things!

Renting and returning a car doesn't take long, Rosie, it is the going through immigration and customs that takes long.
Renting took about 15 minutes including time in line, returning was about 5 minutes.

I think I might have hidden under my seat if I had caused all that mess. But she was really "cool" about it.

I am so sorry it was so cold when you first arrived
Glad you enjoyed the airplane food ..... well, so did we.

On the customs form it asks if you bring food into the country. I actually was not sure if sweets were considered food, so we circled food and just asked. They sent us to secondary inspection, x-rayed our suitcases and we were off. Better to declare beforehand than to be sorry lateron.

Ann, you have NO idea, but it was SO cold. We really were cold that first night.

You airlines food looks much better than the last couple of meals we have had flying in from the UK

I wish I could get more sleep on flights, it must be a great feeling to wake up and see you haven't got long left. DH sleeps like a baby when we fly to Orlando but I'm always too excited to sleep
She was pretty unsettled all flight long, Linda, but thankfully we slept most of the time.
Really, does that airplane food look better than Virgin/BA's? I wish I could fly Austrian, as their catering is really awesome, but it would require to do immigration somewhere else than Orlando and NO food is worth that for me any more.

Linda, I could not fall asleep on a plane without the help of sleeping aids. We bought some in the US and tried them at home to test how we would react to them. Those long flights are much easier now that we sleep through most of them. Plus Tom got us earphones that block out the airplane noise. Oh my, what a difference!

Half term vacation 2013, Feb 16 - Feb 24

Day 1, February 16

It's freezing here! - part 3

We were about half way to WDW and in line to pay our tolls when we came up with a fun idea.
Why not start this vacation with some yummy Krispy Kreme doughnuts? Tom changed the directions on the GPS and we were on our way. A few minutes later we were directed to an exit and low and behold it does have an exact coins gate, but no manned gate, and I was out of quarters. We panicked for a second then Tom remembered that he still had some change in his wallet. Thankfully it was enough and off we went. 10 minutes later we entered our favourite Krispy Kreme doughnut store and the “Hot Now” sign was even on.
We ordered

some coffee and Diet Coke and

a dozen glazed Doughnuts, found a table and after taking a photo of our beauties we dug our teeth into them.
Heavenly, after half a year without them. We both had two doughnuts and finished our drinks before we finished our drive over to Walt Disney World and Bay Lake Tower.
Once we had parked our car we headed towards the lobby and finished check in. I had done online check in, but the system would not recognize my credit card, so that still had to be fixed. We were told about the new features to pay with our Key To The World and off we were within a few seconds. We had our hand luggage with us, so we headed right upstairs to check out our room.
We were right in the middle of the inner circle with a wonderful view of the lake. So down we went again to bring up the rest of our luggage. Once that was done we called bell services for our Owner’s Locker box and it didn’t take long for it to be delivered.

And after we had stowed everything and freshened up a bit we made our way over to the Contemporary to pick up some food and drinks for dinner. First we stopped at the Convenience store to pick up some chips, some salsa and some drinks and then we headed to the Contempo Café and ordered some dinner to take back to our room. Once it was ready they put a lid on everything and put it all into a paper bag, ready to go. We headed back to our room, laid the table and had our first WDW meal.

We had ordered a

Marinated Beef Flatbread and a

Steakhouse Salad - marinated beef, mixed greens shaved red onions, goat cheese, and vine-ripe tomatoes with mustard dressing and it felt wonderfully relaxed to just sit there, enjoy the view of Bay Lake and munch Disney food. Once we had finished dinner we were tempted to just hit the pillows as it had already been a 23 hour day.
But then we knew we HAD TO head over to the Magic Kingdom. I had changed our hotel so we would be able to, there was no way around it now. So we both put on our jackets and headed downstairs and started our way over to the Magic Kingdom.

To be continued ...........

Karin, must admit "Hot Now" sign never entered my mind even though it should have immediately! Likely because I am not a big fan of Krispy Kreme - having been raised on Chicago Sweet Rolls and Long Johns (talk about yummy!!!), then Boston Dunkin' Donuts, KK has never quite made the grade. I do enjoy one or two when pipping hot though!! Yummy!!

Isn't funny even after being up for 23 hours the MK still is a must visit! The sight of it makes even a tired heart perk up. Especially when being so close at BLT!

Very happy Disney decided to correct the 'what were they thinking' and add a sink to the studio bathrooms. I wish BLT was not quite so many points or I would definitely rent for my visit with Sophia. It would be perfect - even if it doesn't have a water launch to MK! I am thrilled to enjoy BLT through your visits!

Good thing I bought Krispy Kremes today. not the same as ours come from the grocery store as we don't have them locally, but they are still darn good. I don't have to lick the screen today now.

Wow, traveling for business and 2 updates late! That lady on the plane was so rude! I almost had my dinner in my lap coming back from Barcelona...the guy in front of me was finished so he just abruptly reclined his seat all the way. Ugh!

Mmmmm, Krispy Kremes. I haven't had any for ages!

I can't believe that you made it to the MK after traveling all day! You guys are troopers.

I love your room! Very tasteful.

How did you like the new aspects to the KTTWC? I found it to work only part of the time. Not that when it didn't it was much of a headache...but I think it still has some bugs to be worked out.

Food looks good. I think I would have probably ended up just enjoying the room, view and food. to you for going out to MK after such a long day AND in the freezing cold!!!

I had the feeling you were talking about Krispy Kreme.

Wow, that's a long day for you, I don't know how you went to MK that night, but of course you had to take advantage of that walk from BLT. I would probably ride the People Mover and take a nap.

Crispy Cremes are pretty awesome, aren't they?

That flat bread looks amazing. It's not quite lunch time here, but my stomach is begging to differ after seeing that pic.

I like the way they remodeled the studios at BLT. I really need to stay there with Denny one of these days. There are two DVC resorts he hasn't tried yet - BLT and BCV. He probably doesn't care, but I would like him to try them all. For strictly selfish reasons, of course.
