Just jumping in here with today's QOTD as I haven't had much time to be on here. I think my OUTSIDE impacts my INSIDE by how I feel about myself. I am currently not happy with myself in many ways....I have been under a huge amount of stress for just at 2 years now (God...please give me a break) and I can see it impacting how I respond to my children....I have no patience to speak of....and how I respond to my husband. Also....just disappointment with myself in general for allowing my weight to get THIS out of hand. I'm hoping that by working on this area that I do have absolute control over it will help me better deal with those things I don't. That's the mental part of it....the physical part of it will be being more comfortable in general and being more willing to run and play with my kids because it doesn't feel like I'm about to collapse immediately.

I'm doing really well following my diet this week. I have not started exercising yet....but I'm taking it in baby steps.

Hope everyone is having a good day!

Good afternoon all!!! Busy morning here in the household followed up with a visit to ANOTHER podiatrist. More on that after the QOTD.

Absolutely changing my outside changes my insides.

1) I have energy!!! I will admit that my diet was garbage which made me feel like garbage. Plus my digestive system was awful, from reflux and beyond.

2) Mentally, it is better for me. Not only do I know that I am caring for my health but clothes fit better which makes me feel and look better.

3) Weight loss has changed me in a sense of feeling better about myself which is a good change.

Now for the foot saga update....

OK, so I decided to get another opinion with my foot issue since the "minimalist shoes" were not helping and going barefoot resulted in me limping more.

This podiatrist of course was against what the other podiatrist prescribed. This is her treatment plan....

1) She actually addressed the pain in my toes and said she thinks that I have nerve inflammation.

2) Do not wear minimalist and do not go barefoot. Instead she sold me orthotic inserts at 40 bucks and said to wear these always until the inflammation is gone.

3) She has prescribed me anti inflammatories for 30 days.

4) I am going to go to PT starting Thursday.

I asked her about the cold laser and reflexology and she said she did not think any of it would help since she believes it is a nerve issue.

I am going to go with her treatment plan over the other podiatrist since I believe the other podiatrist did not properly diagnose me.

And the saga continues.....Let's hope this works.

I hope it works for you, too! My PF was helped by never going barefoot and wearing orthotics so I hope it works for you. that you will be putting your foot problems behind you for good soon!

I have decided I want to lose 2 pounds in March. For exercise I will be focusing on my physical therapy and low impact cardio, so I'm counting on building muscle and not burning quite as many calories as when I'm running.

Yes and no. I have been maintaining or a few pounds above my goal weight for three years now. My confidence and comfort in my own body has certainly increased. And I know being active needs to be a part of my life. I found running/walking races and got my DH into it too. But on the other hand, losing weight was not a magic fix for every issue in my life, kwim?

Nicole, I'm glad that your recovery is going well! How does your DD like her new school? I'm looking forward to seeing you in August.

MM--And I will add, I go barefoot now and haven't worn my orthotics in probably close to a month, BUT it took me a long time (over a year) to get to that point. I had to ween myself off the orthotics, and I still wear my merrell sandals if my feet are sore. It is not something that goes away quickly (much like weight loss ). I still get scar tissue in my foot, but I now know how to deal with it.

As for the nerve issues, I had nerve pain in my foot along with the fat pad issues, tendonitis, p-f, ankle sprain, etc and it eventually went away as well. I think the e-stim really helped with that.

I keep sharing this all with you, just so you know, it really is fixable. Everyones experience is different, but I want you to think positively.

What is the "e-stim"?

I appreciate the advice, believe me. I am very cautious with doctors because well, let's face it, a bad doctor can mess you up pretty wickedly.

I got bad vibes from the last doctor when he expected a reflexologist to fix me and I had to pay OOP for it. Hmmm.

I know it is fixable, I just want to EXERCISE NOW....lol.

I told my new podiatrist I am gardening this weekend no matter what. She told me how to do it safely. Use a stool and not to bend my toes.

I have my fingers crossed for the PT on Thur. Thanks again!

I do think changing my outside will change my inside, in much the way others have already stated... If I am doing the work to get healthy, I will feel proud of myself, in control of my life (at least in that aspect). And if I lose weight I know I will like my appearance more and, again, feel proud of all the work I have done! I don't think it will be a magic ticket to a better life, but I do think I will be a generally happier person and that goes a long way toward a better life

*****************************

Speaking of feeling proud, I am proud that I did a workout today. I wasn't going to... I have not been sleeping well and I was just going to take the day off (except for the 15 mins of climbing the stairs at work I did on my lunch break) and go to bed because I was sooo tired. But I knew I was going to fall just short of my target calorie burn for the day so I decided to walk/run on the treadmill for 20 mins! So, I have a LONG way to go to catch up to you runners out there... it took me 16:45 to do a mile! BUT I did it, and I had said I would run at least 5 mins of that mile, which I did. Downside... now I am not tired and I think I may have trouble sleepng again tonight

Hello! Busy couple of days - now I'm up late (argh, as usual) watching the snow come down and hoping like mad for a snow day tomorrow. I'm not a winter fan, and this last blast is not making me happy at all...the least it can do is give me a day off! Right?

Strict food journaling?? How are you going to make sure that your choices are taking you in the direction in which you want to go??
This time last March, I was on my way to getting rid of the extra pounds I'd been carrying around since having DD6 (then DD5). I was starting to feel stronger and more confident, but that doesn't compare to how great it feels to be back in non-paying lifetime status at WW, maintaining at goal weight, and running my heart out. My plan to make this the best March ever is basically just to keep doing the stuff I've been doing! March is a weird month for me...not quite warm enough to get psyched for spring, but I love getting the later daylight back, and spring break is a welcome break in the routine. So I'm just going to keep running and taking care of myself - and then let it all slide just a teeny bit when DH and I go away while the kids are on break at Grandma's!

I do think getting back to goal and maintaining that loss has changed me. Losing weight gave me the confidence to try something new (running) that I never in a million years thought I'd do, let alone enjoy. It took a while, though. The outside changes came well before any inside changes when I first made WW lifetime back in 2002. I was wearing smaller clothes, and people were noticing the changes, and I could see that I was thinner, but...somehow I still had the larger me inside second-guessing my successes and making me feel like it was all just temporary. Then I had my 2 DDs (now 8 and 6). I carried a good 25-30 pounds from those pregnancies all the way until last spring, but when I finally decided to make the effort to get rid of those pounds once and for all, I realized that I had a conviction I was lacking before - two beautiful little reasons to get the weight off and be healthy, yes, but also the knowledge that I'd done this before, so there was no reason I couldn't do it again.

I diced it and gave it a sautée before adding it to the rice. BOTH of the kids ate it without complaint and didn't pick around it! Success! A fully VEGAN meal for the three of us...and DH had salmon and broccoli, so vegetarian night for him. We stuck true to my commitment to Meatless Monday for a change! Now to work on making it a more "local" meal.. That will be easier when the weather improves.
Ooh, I did a tofu stir-fry on Monday night! I drained, cubed, and patted down a package of extra-firm tofu, and then pre-sauteed it before doing the veggies, which seemed to keep the tofu texture more solid. I used baby bok choy, carrots, ginger, garlic, and snow peas and made a sauce with soy sauce, sesame oil, and hoisin sauce. It was really good, and DD8 ate the whole thing. DD6, our picky eater, proclaimed it decidedly "eh," but that beat a lot of her reactions to dinners at home. :/ I had leftovers for lunch yesterday, and the tofu stayed nice and firm. I would make it again, definitely.

Tomorrow, if we have a snow day, I'm making pancakes for the girls...and I have plans for a Cooking Light lasagna recipe for dinner. Om nom nom. Tomorrow is also a big baking day - I volunteered to make a bunch of stuff for the school/PTA carnival on Saturday - bake sale goodies and a cake for the cake walk. This weekend is so busy - I'm not sure what I was thinking! At least I can knock this part out tomorrow and then drop them off on Friday afternoon (have to commute on Thursday, so that day is shot for baking). If we have a full-on snow day, it'll be perfect for all that baking/packaging because I can enlist DDs to help!

Hope everyone has a great Wednesday!

XO

I have learned that I feel the same no matter how much I weigh, how old I am, what my job is, etc. I think it important to live the life I want now and not wait for some event since you never know what could happen.

That is a good point about having better stamina physically.

Lisa, thanks for the encouragement! I really need it as I am starting to feel seriously exhausted and everything hurts. I finished 6 days of level 2 now and I remember that around this time in level 1 I was feeling horrible as well, and then it got better towards the end. So I just try to talk myself into staying motivated.

Also, I do have problems eating within my calories at the moment. I just am soooo hungry all the time. I think I need to try to get more protein, but that's not always easy.

Will treat myself today as I have an appointment to get my eye brows into shape. I hate doing that to myself and I am going to try out the "Benefit Brow Bar" at a cosmetics shop in town for the first time. It's rather pricey, but I decided that I needed to do something nice for me. Well, I don't expect the procedure to be nice, but I know that I will love the look afterwards!

Hi! I am a newer member of the DIS. I joined the February challenge (late) but wasn't a participant in the thread. I'm hoping to be more active this month, and going forward, as I could definitely use some inspiration & motivation!

I started trying to make healthier choices in January - I've given up soda (even diet! yikes!) and have started tracking my food choices on MyFitnessPal. Last month I got a FitBit One to help me track my steps, etc. I have a desk job and a 90 minute (each way) commute so am out of the house, sedentary, for about 13 hours per day. We have 2 little ones - DD1 and DS4 - so not much "free" time for working out. I've been making it a priority to walk during my work day and steal extra steps wherever I can to make my 10,000 step/day goal. So far, I make it there about 80% of the time and am hitting at least 7-8K every day I'm down 14.5 pounds since January. We are heading to WDW on 5/5/13 to surprise DS for his 5th birthday. My goal is to make it to 25 pounds and be PROUD to be in as many pictures as we can take. It may sound vain, but as the mom, I am the taker of most pictures and when it's time to take my picture, I'm usually feeling less-than-camera ready and shy away. I don't want my kids to look back and wonder why mom isn't in any pictures!

To motivate myself, I've already pre-purchased the PhotoPass+ CD for our trip! No matter what my progress is by departure date, I think the mindset change, that being healthy and happy and IN THE PICTURES is my priority, is a huge shift for the better.

Ugh I've not posted because I've been in a funk and just p!ssed at myself. I work hard last month and lost 4.5 lbs and after one weekend I was up 4. My father in law came over and brought a full BBQ spread. I chose the chicken and peeled of the skin but then I put a dab of potato salad on my plate. Omg it was sent from heaven (or maybe hell ). I went back for more and added the Mac and cheese. And then I spied the brown bag that was all soaked on the bottom - soaked w butter. The rolls! Had 1, 2, ok 3 They were small but still bad choice!!

Next day was a hockey game. I hadn't had "junk" food in a long time. I had my own order of nachos and a ton of popcorn. Then I ate the leftover BBQ. I just thought I might as well eat it all to get rid of it. Doh! It's ok to throw food away!!

I've eaten perfectly clean the last 2 days and working out like crazy. Just makes me mad that all this work I'm doing is to just get back to where I was and not losing. I need to work on the willpower.

Well it's hard to type hiking uphill on the treadmill.

Stay focused!!!

If it makes you feel any better, I've been fighting with my weight loss since last January!! It's taken me ALL this time to lose 17 pounds. I think I'm just the plateau queen!

I know what you mean about the pictures. The majority of mine are of either the DH or the dog. (Granted both are pretty darn cute ). Every time I see myself in a shot, the look goes right to the thighs, followed by a very audible UGH! However, you have found an awesome group of peeps here who will keep you motivated and in good spirits!
