dummy cruise

I have read a few people have dummy cruises that they move around... Can you please explain how this works?

When you sail, you have the opportunity to book on board a future cruise. The benefits are 10% discount, only 10% deposit required, and $100/$200 on board credit (which depends on the length). You can still use your TA and get the additional OBC they may offer.

But, if you plan on sailing in 2015, dates are not yet available. Hence, you book a 'dummy cruise', typically a 3night cruise as far away as possible. The future book desks call this a 'placeholder'

Once the dates you want become available, you move it to the itinerary you want, but you still preserve your on board booking benefits.

That's the only time you would do this.

If you plan on cruising again (even if you're not sure), it's well worth the benefits. Remember, you can cancel that cruise at any time prior to the Paid In Full date (normally 75 days for regular 3/4/7 day cruises) and still get your money returned in full (except for restrictions on concierge cabins).
