Christmas Cruise on the Fantasy or 4th of July cruise

My family is planning a Christmas cruise in 2014. We would really appreciate any photos or advice anyone has who has done the 7-N Eastern on the Christmas Holiday and what we can expect. Is it worth the extra money it costs to take a cruise on Christmas. As I mentioned earlier any photos or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

My family and I think that the Eastern Carribbean cruise during the winter months are cold. None of us like to get in the water.

We have been a few times and have missed laying out on deck and swimming in the ports.

We have only cruised during the summer, never at Christmas. Part of the reason is we like the hot weather for swimming in the ocean and the water temperature in December can be cool. See http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1793397 for a discussion of Castaway Cay in December if that is something that would concern you.

Pros to sailing at Christmas:

Ship is decorated
A few extra activities (gingerbread house decorating, santa, mass every day)
Someone else cooks and cleans up Christmas dinner
No need for 1000 extra presents
No missed school
Special menus for holidays
A few holiday items on sale in the shops

Cons:
Expensive
Crowded
It may be a holiday in the ports; we were in St. Maarten on Dec. 26 and many things were closed
Others may not be considerate of your holiday celebrations (we had a lot of people in the MDR on Christmas looking like they just came out of the pools or off the basketball court and while that normally doesn't bother me, it did at Christmas dinner)
Extra hassle in getting to the port because you are traveling through airports at the holiday

If this is the TIME you want to cruise, then do it. If you are looking for something spectacular for the holiday itself and want to cruise only to celebrate Christmas, I think you might be disappointed. so is it worth the extra expense just for the holiday, no, but it is worth the extra expense if this is the cruise you want to take.

Although we are sailing on the Dream in Xmas 2014, I'd say I don't expect much from it. I think decoration wise, the parks do a much better job.

Since my kids are teens, no need to wait in line for character pictures, so we are looking forward to enjoying the holiday away from home, and as alternative to xmas at the WDW, which we've done a few times and plan on doing this year as well.

Personally, I hope it would be a first and last. I like the sun and water, but nobody else in my family does - however, it is a nice relaxing vacation for me. I guess I'll go after the beer and wine tastings instead...
