Yes, bars of hand soap are provided.

MagicBands are still a little way off yet - late Spring is the current estimate for POR/POFQ.

Just booked! Been checking every day for a non-Royal room to open up with the Spring discount for my dates and today was the day! First time staying at POR...first time staying at a moderate. Have already devoured the picture thread...now to read this one!

So excited!

Oh. Staying May 24-30...first week of DS's summer vacay!

We got back yesterday morning, and had a great time! My fax must have worked, as we were placed in bld. 18! We were on the ground floor so my knee didn't yell as much and we were close to everything!

If I could change one thing, it would be the bus situation. While I loved the resort, and the room is so much bigger and nicer than at POP where we have stayed in the past, the bus pickup is better at the value. There are actual lines, so you know how many people are going where. Instead of all crowding at where you think the front of the line should be only to be run over when the bus shows up and it isn't the one you even want. If they could find a way to separate the lines so you knew how many people were really waiting it would be great. Oh, and if the bus is already full, don't go to the next stop. There were a few buses that pulled up and only one person could fit! But, that was my only real complaint, other than we weren't there long enough!!

We returned last night from a nice 9 night stay at POR. I enjoyed the resort, and the location we were pre-assigned by Mr. Elg was very convenient (Parterre Place in the North wing, 2nd floor right across from the foot bridge going to Sassagoula Place). We had 10 rooms in total for our extended family (in laws and close friends). We preferred our quiet pool by our building; the main pool was nice, but a bit too loud when wanting to relax after a hectic morning in the parks. The Muddy Rivers bar was enjoyable during the warm evenings; sitting on the porch enjoying some beverages and good company. The main food court service was hit or miss; sometimes it was a 30 minute wait for a hamburger. This was during low-crowd prediction period for the parks. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating. We often walked to FQ for beingets ; they were very good.
My one concern going to POR was the bus service; Im not sure exactly how to comment on that without sounding too negative; but I did feel the crowds at the South Depot were difficult to navigate and manage. There were only 2 mornings out of the 10 that we saw a coordinator there calling in for more buses and managing crowds. I understand if you made it to the stop before 8:30, you had a better chance of getting on a bus. However, if you arrive after 9:00, all bets were off. There is no queue, which I know is standard for most resort bus stops, but I strongly believe there should be. Some folks would sit on benches and wait for their bus, but we normally stood by the loading entrances at one of the two stops to ensure we could get on a bus. I wanted to feel guilty about that, but it was impossible for us to know where the folks were going who were sitting on the benches waiting . The crowds often overflowed the stops and backed up on to the walkways. I can only compare this situation to the stops at CSR, which I felt were much less crowed, mostly attributed to it being a convention resort.
Overall POR is a lovely resort, and we had a wonderful time. Many thanks again to all the folks who helped with our trip planning, especially Andre and Venom. Thank you so much.

The UG just means that one side of the building faces the river while the other side faces the parking lot - but they are large buildings, so there's quite a bit of land in between (check out Google Earth images to get an idea of the scale).
I think what they mean, and I'm questioning is that the south wing, river facing rooms in PP seem to look across the river and directly into the main parking lot in front of the main building. Are there trees that block this view? (Hoping!)

If you just turn up and need to get a band encoded while you wait, I think you'll get a generic grey one - second class citizen marker or what?

Andre
I've already registered on My Disney Experience, but I don't see anywhere that it will let us choose our color. Do you think it'll only be an option on the site once it's been fully implemented?

RE: the bus reports.......Oy! This was my biggest concern. Every time we've stayed at POFQ I remember saying I was glad we weren't staying at POR due to what we saw with the busses, but we decided to give it a try this year. If these reports were from a non-busy time of year, I'm worried for our June trip We've had similar issues at many Disney resorts, so it's not a deal breaker, but it does put a damper on things sometimes. I remember having the same 'bench' issue a PP wrote about when we stayed at the Dolphin. People would get there early and sit on the benches, then people would walk up 10 minutes later as a bus was pulling up and they'd push up and get on the bus even though there were people there before them. It became pretty frustrating (especially because it was the last stop and most of the busses that came were mostly full!)

Correct, MagicBands have not been launched yet.

Ah, I see what you mean. Yes, there are trees between the main-building's parking lot and the river bank pathway. For example, this photo was taken from somewhere along the pathway right next to Parterre Place, looking down the river in the direction of POFQ. The main parking lot is somewhere behind the trees on the right-hand side of the picture.

A blog post from Friday regarding the Magic Bands! Looks like Port Orleans will be among some of the first testers It also sheds some light on the customization options you might get with the bracelets.

Do you have to have tickets or a package purchased to see anything about the bands on MDE? I am registered, and we have a room only ressie and I don't see anything at all about this.

I thought I was the only one who appreciated the bus lines at values. The benches sound good in theory.....but if you sit down, you will never get on a bus, because everyone mobs when the bus pulls up. I personally like the lines. No shoving, and the order you got there is the order you get on the bus. Also cant tell you how many times full buses passed us because they had no room. The entire bus situation was stressful, but we are going back because we loved everything else about the resort. If it gets too bad we will just drive to the parks.

"Notice the holes on the inner surface of the blue MagicBand above? [.. snip ..] Similarly, there seems to be a rumor that charms (think of those plastic charm bracelets from the 80s we all loved yes, I know that theyre coming back) will also be available for purchase. The charms will connect to the Band, but its unclear as of yet how that will work being that the holes are only on the inside in most photographs. Im sure that Disney will have a special Band with holes for the charm bracelet lovers out there."

I just wanted to mention I 'jokingly' mentioned adding pins a few posts back.....

The reports of the bus service worry me as well. I stayed at ASMu and the buses weren't bad because there were designated spots for each park. There was also only one stop for the resort. I also stayed at AKL and that bus picked up KV as well. Those buses were a nightmare.

With 4 stops at POR, it could be a horrendous experience. I am actually debating changing to PORFQ because of it.
