Buying discounted tickets off site.

I'll try to make this short. How cheap can you buy a 4 day hopper off site. I priced them through DL at $275 for DW and myself and $255 for our DD6.

I am planning a 2 week trip to WDW (US maybe Seaworld) for August 2014. 10 day PH and water parks is $1250 total. I could upgrade to premier passports while at DL and it would cost us $500 more than buying tickets individually to both parks. So trying to decide if passports would be worth it for discounts and the option to sneak another trip in at WDW within that year and only have to buy a room.
So if I bought tickets outside of the park I don't think I could trade them in for passports. Just weighing the costs vs benefits.
Hopefully somebody follows me lol

Please clarify this statement...Where exactly are you planning on purchasing the tickets in this instance?

From all I have read, it does not appear anyone can save much on tickets - we get a discount for AAA but I do believe that anytime you upgrade a ticket for a pass, it is encoded as to how much you actually paid for your ticket - you will then have to pay the difference between what you paid and what the pass costs. So if you save 5 or 10% on your tickets, you will lose that savings when upgrading.

I would also avoid any third party selling website as people have gotten badly burned buying tickets there.

We are going to buy APs as we are now considering returning within a year for a 2nd trip and then will only have to pay for hotel when there.

Offical offsite Disneyland tickets can be purchased through AAA, getawaytoday.com, and governtment jobs. Costco Travel will let you get hotel and ticket pacakages a bit less than Disney Travel.

Park tickets through these places will allow you to upgrade to AP's if you choose to do so, it must be done by the last day you tickets are good for. I've heard some people get credit for the full "ticket booth" price for their upgrade. In other words, your credit toward an AP would be the cost of your tickets had you bought them at the ticket booths. Even if you wait till the last day, your credit towards APs would be the full price of the park tickets, not the "value" of the days remaining.

Im pretty sure hotels dont have discounts anymore. Alot of Good Neighbor hotels sold tickets at their front desk for online price. Now, there is no difference in price between purchasing online vs purchasing at the ticket booth.

The only time Costco sells discounted tickets is when they are available in the stores (which does not happen often).
And like PP mentined, hotels will not have deeply discounted tickets either. Their prices are usually inline with what Disney is charging.

OP - If it makes financial sense to get the Premier pass, you should get that. You will get discounts on food and merchandise at DLR. I think WDW is much more limited when it comes to discounts for AP holders.
