Arrow What would you do?

We've been to the DLR tons of times but not during Spring Break and not since Carsland opened up.

We'll have 6 full days in So Cal and will be staying about 20 minutes away from Disneyland.

Our options for days at Disney will be Tues-Fri April 3-6 but I really don't want to make this is Disney heavy trip. I'd really like 3 days tops but am considering only two. Here's where I need opinions.

Originally, I was just going to take the kids to DCA for the day, no Disneyland. They burst that totally unrealistic bubble super fast. Little beasts know me all too well.

Then it turned into okay 2 days, one at each, however my DS doesn't love DCA and neither do I but admittedly we haven't been to Carsland or seen the new Buena Vista Street. My DD's love DCA almost as much as Disneyland. I'm not sure i couldn't handle not park hopping and I think the pull would be worse if weren't able.

I'd like to spend most nights with my best friend, were staying with her. She works Tues-Fri and that's why those are our optional Disney days.

I'd be willing to do one really late night at Disney but to be honest I'm over the whole commando thing and really really like my midday breaks. So does DS11. My oldest DD16 will take a break if its an option and my middle DD15 could stay up all night if given the chance. Without a hotel, midday breaks could be an option but they'll take some work.

I can't decide between the following:
  • 2 day Hoppers, one super late night at disneyland
  • 2 one park/per day tickets, same late night at disneyland
  • 3 day hoppers, no late night but maybe leave post fireworks or WoC
  • original DCA only as we haven't seen Carsland and enjoy more beach/down time
.

Thanks for taking the time to read through all of this and post your insights.

3 day hoppers so you can see/do everything you want at both parks without a late night and in (relatively) relaxing fashion, and three days at the beach.

Thank you for taking the time to read and respond. Of course more days is always preferred but that would leave us no late nights to see fireworks.....

With 3 days though, we'd have access to one MM I believe which could be used at DCA for Carsland. I sure wish 2 day hoppers provided an MM.

But above you said three days, leaving after fireworks or WoC.

If that's still a choice, it would be my suggestion. It gives you options and allows you time to take it at an enjoyable pace.

I would do 3 days as well.
I wanted to clarify that MM can only be used at DL, not at DCA.

I would do commando for four days! With breaks in the afternoon. But that is just how I roll.

I had voted, "2 day hopper with one commando day," so that you could squeeze in both WOC and Fantasmic!.

I voted 3 day hopper but why can't you have 1 late night? Even if on your late day you don't start your day at Disney until late morning/early afternoon.

Yes, I did. It depends on what time fireworks are. I agree and while I don't want to spend that much, 3 days would give us the ability to visit in a more relaxed way.

Thank you! Great info. I'm confusing myself by trying to read so much.

I usually feel that way and if we were staying on property or really close, I'd be tempted. Of course we could leave and come back each day but that would realistically be at least a 60 minute venture each way between leaving the park, getting to the parking lot, and getting back to my friends.

Again without being close on property the midday break is unappealing but I like the way you think. If we were at the GCV, I'd be all over 4 days.

I'm leaning towards this in terms of money and time. Not sure Wed do F! but we could take advantage of less crowded rides during it.

Good point on not starting early on our later night. I'm worried though so Spring Break and the crowds. Isn't rope drop almost imperative during crowds like that?

Thank you again for all your insights. I want to order tickets online, which is another story, trying to find the best deal, so I've got to do it fairly soon.

DCA wasn't my favorite either - until the new sections opened up. Now, we find that we are in DCA more than we're in DL. We love BV Street and Carsland - and we find that DCA is definitely an all-day park if you want it to be. YMMV, however, I wouldn't want you to count DCA out until you've experienced it as it is now - spiffy and gorgeous!

PS - Saw you have a dog named Guinness We did for 14 years, too. Made me smile...

I'm thinking we'll love DCA more too with the Carsland addition. I would count Disneyland out before DCA for the very reason to see Carsland. My original thought was just a one dayer at DCA but the kids about fell over. Tickets are so expensive. We got pretty spoiled the last few years as our friend was able to sign 3 of us in. Having to pay full price for 4-5 tickets is painful especially since we're not staying at the GCV, I don't want a Disney heavy trip.

Ours is a black lab. What was your Guinness?

Seriously, have you seen F! at DL? It is waaaaaay better and seriously different than the watered down program of same name at DHS.

I think only big dogs can be named Guinness. Can you imagine a chihuahua named Guinness?

We have seen it and its incredible. And I agree, much better than WDW's. I cannot even imagine how early we'd have to stake out a spot though during Spring Break. I'm sure my daughters will be off riding things and not want to watch the fireworks anyway, maybe DS will go too but he's generally a trooper when it comes to waiting with me.

We're also a torn family when it comes to Disneyland love. DS and myself prefer Disneyland. My oldest DD and DH prefer DCA. And our sweet middle DD likes them both equally. She's such a idle child.
