We had booked a B2B Seattle /Vancouver/ LA, but they had us pick only one and had to cancel the other. Mexico/Canada or a Caribbean island are not considered "distant", according to maritime law?
I'm sure we would be ok with just stops in PV and Cabo. They are the same ports they used for the Mexican Riviera cruises.

The difference is those cruise started and ended in the same port. That means the distant foreign port of call does not apply. All those cruises had to do was a foreign port. Like the Hawaii cruise. Ensenada was used to satisfy the foreign port requirement.

[QUOTE=Meghatron;47613799]We have only sailed on the Wonder and the pass sold out on both of our MR cruises: one in January and one in April.

On the Pixar Cruise, we were able to get three day Rainforest Passes for 1/2 off! I think because we waited 'til day 3 & it was ALWAYS empty? I was hoping it might happen again, but now realise it may not I love those nifty tiled chairs

I am really looking forward to Cartagena but Aruba was OK and I wouldn't mind going back to Aruba, but it is fun to go to a place you have never been.

I rather like the chance to see Cartagena though I am a little concerned of course. At the moment we have no excursion booked and not sure what we will do as I won't wander around on our own. We don't like all day tours, preferring up to about 4 hours at the most.

I think the EBPC's have stopped there in the past haven't they? We never did anything on Aruba the 2 times we docked there, just wandered around. I won't miss it to be honest. It is a shame they aren't stopping in Costa Rica again though. I believe some of the excursions were wonderful. But there was a lot of travelling to anywhere I seem to remember and that put a lot of people off. Again we just wandered locally and it was a very poor cruise docking place to be honest. There was another cruise ship we could see docked at the main place a little further along the coast so that might have been a better position.

None of the other PC cruises have stopped in Columbia. I believe this will be the first time.

My family was on the December EBPC and we stopped in Cartagena. We had a great time, got off the ship, found a taxi to show us around for 4 hours, paid him $50 plus tip. We went to the Monastery, Old Fort, Old City, and the "mall" the ship recommends to buy emeralds. We did not feel unsafe at any time.

The city has some interesting sights, like any other country keep your wits about you but for the most part the Colombians just want you to enjoy their country. The street vendors are a bit more aggressive than other places but not a big deal.

We will probably not do anything this time because we were just there, not because we don't feel safe. Any questions, feel free to ask.

Well, I really hope Cartagena isn't cancelled. It would be my first stop in South America and I'd like to add that to the continents I've been to!

We've done Aruba before, not Costa Rica, but either one would be less exciting IMO.

So why does this work for the California Coast Repo? PV and Cabo are more distant than Vancouver and Victoria.

I keep hearing about wine packages... but ones that you can sign up for on your first night in the dining rotation. I'm assuming these are separate from what's available for order on the DCL website?

What do these entail? How much are they (for the whole 14-nights)?

The only time a DISTANT foreign port is required is when a cruise is sailing from one US port to a different US port. The repo doesn't require it because Vancouver is a Canadian port, not a US port. This is why, when DCL sailed Alaska out of Seattle, the repo to get there went to Vancouver and then the first Alaska sailed from Vancouver and ended in Seattle. Subsequent cruises were closed-loop from Seattle, so Victoria counted as a foreign stop since a DISTANT stop was not required on a closed-loop US port origin cruise.
