When you book onboard do they charge the deposit to your Key To The World card or do they take a credit/debit card from you at the time?

I know the KTTW card is linked to the card you have on file but I am curious about the process as I might use a different card other than the one on file.

You can put it on another card, as far as I know. They always ask if we want to put it on the one on file. It is not added to your onboard charges, you won't see it on your final cruise bill. You should see it as a separate charge on your credit card statement.

Confiming what PP wrote that you can put it on any card you want. It also takes a few days to post so don't panic (like I did the first time) and think it wasn't booked when you don't see it on your CC account immediately. Also if you add a TA it takes a fews days to show on their end so keep the form they give you on board for reference.

The onboard booking agent will ask if you want to put it on the same card as your shipboard account. If the answer is yes, you don't need to have the card with you. If the answer is no, you should have the other card on hand and he/she will collect that information to process the payment through. In neither case will the charge show up on your onboard account statement.
