How fast do prices go up?

I am not sure if it will be cheaper to book now for March 2014 or if will be better to wait till this May when I am onboard ( cruising on DCL May 2013). If I book now can I get the 10% off the price I locked in or would it be the current price at the time of sailing?
Thank you!

There's really no way of telling. Prices rise when a certain "tier" or number of rooms within a category have sold. Depending on how popular a specific cruise is, prices can rise within hours, or take several months to rise.

It would be 10% of the price as of the time of sailing.

That being said, if you book it now and it becomes obvious that the price is going to come out less once you take off 10% + a $100-200 onboard credit, AFAIK you can cancel your previously booked cruise right before you leave (or on the ship, for that matter) and rebook it onboard.

I would book now - we waited and the cruise had gone up almost a thousand dollars in three weeks - so we got burned we would have saved more too book it when we first looked at it.
Maybe book it now and then if it is cheaper on obard - book another and cancel the one you have booked? Don't know if you can do that or not.

Also, certain room categories will sell out before they even have a chance to go up in price. We're sailing in Jan. 2014 in a Deluxe Family Stateroom, and I've been keeping an eye on the price to see if, by chance, it would go down, but instead that category is now sold out.

I would book it now, and then if it is the same price by the time you leave, cancel and rebook on the ship. But, definitely book something now just to hold the space/price.

That is exactly what reshopping onboard is.

Wow I can't believe it would go up that much when it is a year out. It will be a little over 10 month from the day we board the ship. I better hurry up and finalize my dates!!
Thank you everyone for your replies

Our cruise is 1 year, 3 months, 1 week, and 1 day away - but who is counting! We booked it last week while on board the Magic - I had priced different cruises about three weeks before we left so when we were on board we would know what we wanted to book - and we were shocked when she gave us the price.

The popular/busy dates increase by the week -- or even by the hour opening day.

I can give a good example of prices not rising too - the cruise we were on two weeks ago never went up in price. I was curious if the price would ever go up because it was my first cruise and I had heard that the prices usually continuously went up from. But everytime I checked the price for my room never went up. And then they eventually did Kids Sail Free - oh boy was I excited about that! So yeah that is the flip side of the coin - the rest of the country was in school and our area was not - so I guess it wasn't a popular time for others to travel, but I will say that from Christmas to Feb 9th the cruise filled up and there were no rooms left for upgrades.
