We were on the Magic two weeks ago out of Galveston. I didn't notice anything unclean. The biggest sign of age I saw were some cracks in the marble flooring, near the Walt Disney Theatre and shops.

Been on the Magic three times (a fourth coming up in March). First time was 2000, second 2006, third 2012. Was she in the same shape in 2012 as in 2000? No. But she was clean and well kept. I think some things started to appear dated, but not unclean. Never unclean.

I was on the Dream in Nov and the Wonder in Dec. The Wonder (as I'm sure is true with the Magic) has some things that are just older and have been repaired rather than replaced. For example, the tile in the bathrooms on the Wonder was cracked in several places. The mattresses were not great. The carpet is older and the lighting isn't as good. I found most of the public places to be just fine. The Guest Services area on the Wonder is much smaller than the area on the Dream, but what difference does that make to me, I don't work in the smaller area?

Other things that are better on the newer ships are the number of sockets in the cabins, the hairdryers, the furniture, and the elevators. There are more conveniences on the newer ships.

There are many more nicks and scratches on the older ships. There are a million coats of paint on the stateroom doors and magnets barely hold. The doors don't close tight and there is a lot of squeaking and rattling.

I did think it was a little musty in our OV on the Wonder, and when I cruise again (75 days!) we not only have a verandah, I'm bringing air freshener and a fan. I do like fresh air in a room.

We just returned from a 6 night on the Magic (2/9-2/15). She's a beautiful ship and we never saw any indication of mold or other unclean conditions. The crew does a fantastic job of cleaning and maintaining her. Considering that the ship is 14, I think it looks great. Sure there as signs of wear and tear (cracked tiles, rust on the verandah), but I wouldn't hesitate to book another cruise on the Magic.

There is a major rehaul scheduled for August. According to some of the crew that we talked to, they are going to gut the ship and replace tiles, carpet, décor, etc.

Was also on the magic February 9-15 and agree with the PP from the same cruise - I would never have been able to guess the age of the ship - I honestly thought it was beautiful - I cannot even think of an area that had a lot of wear and tear. And quite frankly the whole week you could see them doing little projects to keep the boat in tip top shape - like varnishing rails and seats on the deck - painting a wall by the adult area - they were always busy cleaning and maintaining. And as for the staterooms well the two I was in were beautiful - very clean! Did not see a speck of mold. I would love to know how many people made that remark - bet it was one just overly picky person that may have seen something they thought was mold. I really stay away from reviews because usually they are written by OCD people who are very picky.

Also, IDK if it's been mentioned but the Magic will be going into dry dock in September and probably getting a complete "make-over" (new carpet, paint, furniture, etc). So, depending on when you are cruising, it may not even be an issue.

We weren't on as recently as you are asking but I did want to comment. We were in a standard inside room (7621) in March 2012. It was DH & I. There was a slight musty odor in our room, and I called Guest Services about it. Within a few hours, they had brought a dehumidifier and our stateroom host had completely re cleaned our room. The smell was gone by the next day. Guest Services did call at least 3 times to check on us, and sent us a gift on our last day. I did not need the gift, just wanted the smell attended to, which it was. I did not notice any mold. Yes, the carpets on the ship are worn, yes the bedding is older...but that is to be expected, and will not ruin my vacation i the least.
We love the Magic, and have a NYE cruise this year booked on her.
Hope you have a MAGICal cruise!
