Arcade ?

How much did most of your children spend each in the Arcade on the Magic? Do you have an idea what the price-per-game is? Trying to figure out how much to put on cards for each child. Also, does 3-12 age group get Invade the Arcade times when it is free? I have a feeling this will be by boys' favorite area!

The Edge has a time to invade the arcade. Not all the games are available then but the ones that are open are free to the kids in that program. That's the only time that my kids go to the arcade, even after several cruises. There is plenty to do around the ship that doesn't involve them spending more money on video games. There are lots of gaming options in the Edge itself.

There are free arcade times? I never saw that in the Navigators. Is that where the info is found?

My boys won't be old enough to be in the edge, though. Oldest will be 2 months shy Hope he doesn't get bored! Any one had any luck with Disney letting kids move up to next level if parents request?

Age levels in the clubs:
Oceaneers Club/Lab 3-12
Edge 11-14
Vibe 14-17

The overlap ages were built in for those kids who may be a better fit in a younger (or older) club.

You certainly may ask at the desired club if your child can attend in spite of not being in the correct age group, but the answer will depend on whether there are a large number of kids of the correct age for that club onboard or not.

I will point out that the kids in Edge (and Vibe, for that matter) generally are not real welcoming when the "babies" invade their space.

Yep, he'll be 2 months shy of 11. He'll want to be with the older kids and not with his baby (7 yr old) brothers He's used to being with older kids in Boy Scouts. Guess we'll just have to see.

The general guideline is within 30 days of the age range. It does depend on the number of kids booked on the cruise in each age group. If it is maxed out, exceptions won't happen.

Is this written out somewhere or just a known fact? My DD will be about 45 days from 11 and I was really hoping she would be able to go with her older (12) brother in Edge. DD is far more outgoing than DS and her being there would help him feel comfortable - he is pretty shy and has a difficult time just going up to people and talking. DD on the other hand has a vast age group of friends because she is not shy and is that type of kid that just walks up to other kids. Seems so weird that I want his younger sister going with him... don't you send the older boy to keep track of the younger girl?

It is not written anywhere, but that has been what we have been quoted since first cruising with DCL in 2003. We heard it from a CM directly in 2004 when DD4 didn't want to go to the club and was in a seperate group from DS6. Back then they had the 3-4s and 5-7s in seperate groups within the club. The CM offered to waive the guideline so DD could be with DS and might be more willing to participate. We didn't choose to do that since we were traveling with friends who also had a DD4. I don't think either of them went to the club that cruise but hung out with us.

Anyhow, it really is dependent on the number of kids in each age group on your cruise, which is probably why they don't have it written down. Both of your kids at 11 & 12 can go to the lab together with the overlap there without any special approval.

OP we gave our kids $20 each the first cruise and that was it. The cost per game is IIRC high, but can't really tell you an actual amount because each machine cost so many "points" and you purchase a card with x points on it. Seems to me they blew through 20 bucks in about twenty minutes. FWIW our kids will not be going anymore to the arcade unless it's with the kids club invasion. Honestly, there's more than enough for them to do without spending time in front of video games on a several thousand dollar vacation...well that's what feels right for our family anyway.

Back to the OP's original question...

The best 'value' in the arcade is a $50 card. It gives you the most points for the $. We had a large OBC on our last cruise, so we let each of DD's the $50 card. They were thrifty with them, and they lasted all week. Although, they could have spent it all in one day! They just knew when it's gone, it's gone....so spend wisely.

Also--I had no idea there was 'invade the arcade' time...I'll have to keep an eye out for that on our next cruise.
