Question about Port Orleans..How many per room?

We have friends that we are desperately trying to talk into going to DW in Sept with us-we are booked at AKL, they are a family of 5 and are trying to do this as economical as possible (isn't everyone??)...Art/Animation would be very expensive, so that one is out. I have another friend that stayed at PO back in Nov-they had 4 adults and one teen in one room there. However, I looked on PO website and they're saying that you can only have a max of 4 ppl per room..Any info on this?? I went on website and got pricing for their fam staying at PO, and they didn't kick me out saying that it can't accommodate 5.. Looking to see if I'm covering bases here! Thanks!

You can have a family of 5 in the port orleans riverside alligator bayou section. Just keep in mind the 5th bed is pretty small but you can always bring an air mattress with you.

A family of 5 can be accommodated at PO RIVERSIDE in the Alligator Bayou section only. There are 2 queen beds and a small murphy bed. Emphasis on the small- it's really designed for a child. However if the 5th person is a larger teen they could bring along an airmattress to sleep on. Not sure if the resort still has rollaway cots available.

In addition to the PP's advice, I'll add that kids under 3 don't count on a room reservation. So if one of the kids in that family is < 3, they can book as though they are only 4 people.

I will also add that some of the rooms at the Swan and Dolphin can accommodate 5 with a roll away bed and they run some really good specials. They almost always have the 6th night free promo. If you sign up for their recipe club, they will have great deals in their emails. And that roll away is also a Heavenly Bed.

Also, Swan and Dolphin are Starwood properties so you can book them on points if you use their American Express card. Sometimes they will have some great introductory offers.

We are a family of 5 and we are staying at POR, but our youngest is 9. Our travel agent told us that at the last training session they had Disney told them that the 5th person in a room at POR must be under 10. If they are AAA members the agent sould be able to get them a discount. We try to save any penny we can and we are looking at the cabins as the next place for us to stay at. Once we out grow POR we think this will be the next step up at the best price.

for a first trip I would recommend POR..and not recommend swan or dolphin especially on a budget. ME is included in POR, there are just so many amenities for a family and Id also recommend PREFERRED room if they can do it, the buildings are VERY close to the main building, the food court ...youo can get AB section without preferred but you can be Very Far away...and for a first visit, you wanna be close to get a true, relaxed feel of this large resort...
and be sure they see piano Bob, perhaps you could all meet up...such fun as a group.

That isn't precisely true. The occupancy limit for Alligator Bayou, according to the official website (on the POR room types and pricing page) is 5. They recommend that the person using the murphy bed be under under 10 based on averages sizes. They do stipulate the size of the mattress on that bed. But that does not preclude an older or larger 5th person in the room who uses an air mattress.

Thanks for the info. I guess maybe the travel agency does not want to deal with people calling from the room and yelling at thim because there is not enough room.

The rollaway cots are no longer used at POR and POFQ, because of the size of the new beds to queens.

As you stated, the TA was given wrong information or misinterpreted it - by fire code, AB rooms are allowed as 5 for occupancy.

Thank you for clarifying this. Our family just returned home from a POR trip a few weeks ago. Me, DH, and kids 14, 9, and 5. I will say the only kid who felt they fit comfortably in the Murphy bed was the 5 y/o. The 9 y/o is almost 10 and weighs 70 pounds at almost 5 feet and she felt it was just too narrow for her.
