Photopass

hey guys, my first choice for CP is Photopass, but I'm not being able to find a lot of information about it. So if you've done Photopass or know anything about it I'd love to hear anything you know, I want to be prepared when I take my phone interview and I want to know what I'm getting into!
Thanks

Hello!

If you're looking for general information concerning Disney's Photopass, I found the main site to be a help at introducing you to the products. The AllEars page goes a bit more in depth, and you can see the CM Costuming as well.

As far as preparation goes, be able to answer and be able to comprehensibly respond to these questions:

You're mainly going to be outside, and possibly in several different locations.

Let me know if you've got any specific questions!

Have a Magical Day!

Me!! I did two programs of photopass and it was AMAZING!! I stayed on after my last program and am currently part time at EPCOT. Also, check out my blog cause i wrote A LOT my first program (really hasn't been updated in like 6 months... i should get on that). But ask away! Photopass is really an amazing opportunity. I've photographed everything from a proposal (their friends went nuts) a grown woman crying after meeting Mickey for the very first time (even I teared up) and just some of the cutest kids you will ever see in your life. You also get really good at charades from interacting with the characters so much. But hit me up with any questions!

HI! My daughter has just applied for CP fall 2013 and is interested in Photopass Photographer, but had some questions that she asked me to post:

Do you have to be a photographer to get a photopass role? She's only done her own photography, and some stuff for an art class.

Suggested questions to ponder include one about meeting sales goals and selling additional products. I will assume that the additional products are upgrades, frames, etc... yes? However, the monthly sales goals thing: Are your income or ability to keep your job dependent on meeting these goals?

At the hiring stage... Do you think Disney is more interested in your technical photographic skills or your enthusiasm for becoming a photopass photographer?

Hello! This may get answered a bit better in the College Programs Question Thread, but I'll try my best to answer your questions!

1. You don't have to be on a professional level of photography, but it is highly recommended that you are acquainted with DSLR/SLR cameras and know how to properly handle them.

2. Essentially, she will be required to meet monthly sales goals in addition to daily photo goals. The products that you want to be informed about are mostly listed on the official site. I don't know much about the ability to keep your job, given reaching goals or what have you. It is an hourly position, and she will still be paid.

3. Trick question, both. They are definitely interested in someone with a background in professional photography, but you must also show a passion and drive for the role. In the end, it is the recruiter's decision on what role you are placed in and you want to make your point seen!

Have a Magical Day!

Just to add my two cents in here:

Having photography experience is definitely a bonus, however Disney trainers have always stressed that they will train you on the camera. I had taken h.s. and college level courses, as well as several photographic trips with my college, and I feel this helped me secure the role. I have never done anything professionally before Disney. I trained with people who had photographed concerts before, and also some who had never used anything other than a point and shoot. I have a friend who transferred from housekeeping into the role and they taught him everything. Enthusiasm is a DEFINITE plus, and I feel Disney is a prime example of "hire the smile, train the skill." If she hasn't had her interview yet, she should for sure bring up her classes that she's taken and WHY she want's to be a photographer (i.e. helping to capture special moments).

In short, your job is not dependent on sales or numbers. We really focus more on the guest and not about the sales. A lot of my job is answering what photopass is, and how the guest can best utilize our service. The selling other products is when we are in the camera shop, the guest can come look at their photos and we explain what their options are in regards to buying, as well as other products they can buy on our website (books, coffee mugs, magnets, etc). There is no pressure to upgrade guests to photo packages; i just really tell them what their best option is for the number of photos they have/want. And while there is kind of a photo quota, they really just want us to be visible and easy for the guests to find. You have a location you stand in and wait for guests to approach you. If you are visible, the guests will always find you. I can shoot anywhere from 800 photos on a normal day, to I think I topped out one day at around 2600

Hope this helped! Post again if she has any more questions, I love my job!
