Stopping spot - Gulfport, MS or Mobile, AL?

Hi all - I was wondering if anyone had any opinion on which stopping point for the night would be better/safer. We will be splitting up the drive this time (normally drive straight through).

Go down I-10 a bit further(if you are going that way) and stay in Spanish Fort, Al. My sister lives there and it is a safe place to stay. Several hotels across from Eastern Shore Mall. Also there are some hotels right by the Bass Pro Shop in Spanish Fort. All of this is right off the highway.

If you have good weather go ahead and cross Mobile Bay (on your return). There are only two ways really to get across the bay on I-10...if one is down, the other overloads. I would stop in Gulfport, although there are nice hotels along I-10 in Ocean Springs. Once you are past Gulfport it is slim pickin's til you get to LA. There may be some construction still on 1-10 just outside Mobile...not too bad.

Avoid getting off at the I-110 when it crosses 1-10. 1-110 South is the Casinos and North is the horrible Sangani Blvd death trap intersection.

I would recommend somewhere on exit 609. There is a Denny's and McDonalds with a Chevron station. Nice area. If you want to go a little farther east then you can stop at Hwy 63/Exit 69. It is about 6 miles fromt he AL state line. There is a Hampton Inn, Cracker Barrel, Ruby Tuesday, fast food. Glad to have you!!

Any of these exits would lead you south to Hwy 90 and Casino Row.

The PP is correct Spanish Fort is a lovely area, too.

Thank you. I should clarify that we are stopping only on the way there. I'll have another driver on the way back, so we will drive that straight through.

I'm going to check out the areas mentioned. I need to get a room reserved soon.

Someone on another boards(non-Disney) mentioned that Gulfport was casino full and to keep driving until the other side of mobile.
Ill check out those exits.

We have driven the trip many times starting in Oklahoma about 4 hours from Dallas. Last trip we had two small children so we stopped in lafayetta just before getting onto I-10. Not a bad stop.

Usual trips we stop at Destin or Greyton Beach both 30 miles out of the way but worth it. We tend to spend an extra day or two at these two beach areas.

Another stop we have made that was right on I-10 was close to milton, Fl Just past Pensacola. It was a nice stop and quick to get back on interstate.

If your in for the drive we have also stopped at Tallahassee. We used hotwire for a 3 star hotel. Worked out great. Again close to I-10 so quick to get back on road.

I am very interested for stops between Lafayetta and Mobile.

I have thought that Daphne Alabama looked like a good stop many times as I passed it. I may give it a try.

When you get off at that exit one side of the highway is Daphne, and the other side is Spanish Fort (the side with the Bass Pro Shop).

How far is Spanish Fort from the ocean? It would be nice to spend a little time on the gulf during an overnight stay.

Not to far actually. It takes anywhere to 45 minutes to an 1 and 15 minutes depending on traffic. We take the back roads and it saves time most of the time.
