What is going on at the Contemporary this week? - The DIS Discussion Forums

I just got second hand news that my sister checked into the Contemporary Resort yesterday and checked out this morning.

I admit she is very snobbish, but my brother in law is a thousand percent more reasonable, and would not allow the change of hotels unless things were really bad. (They are now off site at the Ritz).

I dont have a ton of details, but the quote I got was "It was disgusting and I could not stay another night"

I went in 2008 and through major construction with the BLT and Chef Mickeys with jackhammers and all, I thought it was fine. I loved the decor and convenience. Is there anything going on in particular this week that would cause her to leave?

I went a few weeks ago and changed immediately to gf after seeing our room...it was worth spending more money at gf than dealing with that

We love the Contemporary, so I have no idea. And a big part of me cringes thinking of the potential monetary penalties for moving to an offsite hotel - unless it was something Disney acknowledged with a full refund, that's a lot of money to lose!

They are renovating the concierge level of the building.

Some people are easily appalled. Friends of ours did exactly the same thing after finding a hair in the bathroom.

LOL! That probably would be my sister, but I know my brother in law would have removed the hair, or at minimum called housekeeping and taken her for a nice dinner while the room was recleaned and they would have stayed.

Something had to be pretty bad for him to leave too.

I suspect if your sister was expecting the same level of service and overall comfort as an offsite 5 star she would have found it to be disappointing.

The Contemporary cannot be compared to an offsite Four Seasons or Ritz, etc.

It can be the same amount of money, but on the other hand, the offsites are just that to me: offsite. I have stayed in plenty of 5 stars for business travel and the Contemporary does not begin to compare to them. HOWEVER, they are not the Contemporary, which I love, and will return to as many times as I can make it work.

She wont be back until Saturday night. She called my mom that first day only to tell her where she would be, in case of an emergency.

I wouldnt be concerned! If it was something major, I think more people would have posted something. Maybe she was concierge level (another person posted there are reno's going on) and the renovations (noise) bothered her?? Maybe the room did need a renovation and hadnt been yet?? I have no idea, but Im dying to know myself!
