Changing Room Only to MYW Package

Is it possible to add tickets to a room-only reservation to upgrade it to a MYW package once I am in Florida, or fairly close to my arrival day? It's kind-of a silly dilemma. We are taking an unplanned, last-minute trip to WDW. I haven't made a room reservation yet, because I want to use my $500 in Disney VISA rewards to pay for the room, but the card won't arrive for about 5 days- and I need the # from the rewards card to use the points. I was thinking of making a room-only reservation with my credit card, then upgrading to MYW (by adding tickets) in another week when I have my rewards card. Is this possible? Will it work?

(I know I'll lose the room-only discount but I've done the math and it's cheaper to upgrade to MYW than to do room-only and get tickets from Undercover Tourist or somewhere.)

How many days will it be from your arrival? You can change a room only reservation to a package as long as it is within 3 days of your arrival. Just remember the whole package price will be due once it inside the 45 day window.

You don't have to buy park tickets until you get there. You can buy them when you check in or at the gate.

I don't see why you need to add the tickets to your room only unless you want the dining plan. You can just buy the tickets when you get there and have them added to your KTTW. No need to make it a package.

I ran the numbers and it's cheaper to add them as a package than to buy them at the gate... at least according to the reservations page...

Room only at ASMu is $488 (4 nights). If I do this as a package with 4 day basic park tickets, the total (with tax) is $981.72. This makes the cost of two tickets $493.72,or $246.86 per ticket (over the room price). Looking online, Undercover Tourist Mousesaver's 4 day ticket is $266.64; Official Ticket Center 4 day +1 free is $270. Even if I did a package at Disney with 4 nights room and a 5 day ticket, the ticket price would be $258.39 each through Disney.

Gate price on a 4 day ticket is $272.64; 5 day pass is $285.42.

You can't add tickets to a room only reservation to make it a package. If you book room only now and want to change to a package, the room only will have to be cancelled/refunded and the package booked, requiring a new $200 deposit or payment in full. Packages must be paid in full 45 days prior to arrival, so if you do this and you are 44 days or less from arrival, the package will have to paid in full at the time of booking, with the refund on the room only possibly taking up to 2 billing cycles depending on how quickly your bank processes the refund. Room only reservations and packages are different reservations systems, so money paid toward one cannot be applied to the other.

Be sure you're comparing apples to apples, UT ticket price posted includes tax, the WDW Ticket web site price posted doesn't include tax till you go to check out.
